CNN Asks Angelina Jolie About Adopting From Haiti — Natural Question or Really Off Topic?

We took a look back at one of Angelina Jolie's interviews from 2004 earlier today, but this week she opened up to CNN's Christiane Amanpour about her work in Haiti. The actress traveled to the nation devastated by last month's earthquake to meet with local UN officials and visit with injured children, but her conversation with Christiane veered from charity work to the Jolie-Pitt family and whether they'd adopt from Haiti. Angelina politely answered the question before returning to a discussion of Haiti's needs, but tell us what you think — was CNN's asking about a possible adoption a natural question or was it really off topic?

although it was very off topic, can she be surprised that people will make jokes about her adopting the whole world? And can she be surprised people think she's a nasty ho? no, seriously, I'm not even being funny here...

i commend angelina jolie on all of her amazing work. what a shame people try to bring down a woman who has done so much for the world as an ambassador...she is in country, giving her time, money...what else can she give to make someone deem her work worthy...not that she cares...she's selfless and that's just amazing...it's not her fault the media follows her everywhere, if audrey hepburn was alive and continuing her amazing work with unicef and various other world charities, would you assume the same nasty things about her. i hope not. the world is so cynical and that just breaks my heart, when a person is truly trying to make the world a better place we assume they are there for personal gain. boo. i am choosing to rise above your small, ignorant, little minds.

I think she handled it very well, but I do feel that it's off-topic. She is there in her capacity as a representative of the UNHCR, using her celebrity and extensive knowledge to bring attention to a cause. She is not there to discuss her personal life in any capacity. I expect a lot more from CNN and Armanpour, and am disappointed they asked the question. For all the posters who continuously accuse Jolie of being needy and chasing a spotlight - I hate to break it to you, but she's there in an official capacity, and as such, is expected to do interviews. She is one of the most active, visible examples of a celebrity-humanitarian in the world today, and whether you like her or not, she'll continue to be covered extensively, both in a personal and professional way.

poor amanpour to have to talk to her at all. why not talk to the people on the ground who are SELFLESSLY giving their time and energy to helping the needy instead of this actress?

This is especially inappropriate because Haiti is now dealing with an increase in child trafficking. Haiti has stated that they have temporarily stopped allowing adoptions. CNN needs to write better questions. Angelina is really an amazing woman
