Carey Mulligan and her husband, Mumford & Sons lead singer Marcus Mumford, held hands on Friday as they headed to lunch at Prune in NYC. Later on in the day, Carey headed out of their hotel solo to do a little more promotion for The Great Gatsby, sharing a story about her embarrassing first meeting with the producer of the soundtrack, Jay-Z.
Carey visited Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to chat about taking on the role of Daisy Buchanan and her A-list collaborators on the project. She told Jimmy that she met Jay-Z at the NYC premiere of the movie last week, but that the introduction didn't go very smoothly. "I built it up in my head," she said. "He was so nice, and he reached out to shake my hand . . . and I went sort of blank." Carey said that she got so flustered, she awkwardly told Jay, "I know you . . ." before dissolving into nervous giggles. On Saturday night, Carey followed up her visit with Jimmy by joining her costars and director Baz Luhrmann to preview The Great Gatsby for a VIP group that included Katy Perry and Gwen Stefani. The film hits theaters in the US on Friday and will open the Cannes Film Festival on May 15.
