He also said this "Damon: 'What bothers me the most about the state we're in right now is I don't feel that there's a shared consciousness and a shared sense of sacrifice, and we have these young men and women who are fighting a war in name and our president tells us to go shopping.'" Do you still think that he is ignorant of the pain those men and women are going through? Will he be appreciated more if he goes to shopping merrily spending his millions and not shed a tear for them? That man is worried like the rest of us.

You hear people like Matt Damon speaking to the press/talk-shows just before they are releasing their movies because these kinds of actors disappear into their personal life as soon as their movie is done and released to the theatres. You don't see them partying every night, creating scenes in bars, dropping their pants in public, making and selling sex videos, verbally abusing photographers/reporters or getting into any kind of scandals. They don’t give you any reason to see or hear about them other than their work. Matt had no intention to make the Hardball interview political. Instead the interviewer deliberately asked political questions to him. When you’re asking political question to a world famous celebrity on TV then you should give him enough time to elaborate his view, otherwise, the holes left in his quotes will be intentionally and wrongly filled by those who don’t support his views to give it a shape/meaning that he can’t even imagine of saying. A man cannot illustrate his political views in just a few sentences. Matt wasn’t given enough time. You just heard him putting stress on the fact that people still join the army for money (which is indeed a fact, even though their number may be considerably small as shown in the survey). People join armies for various reasons. If you come from poor areas in Boston where drugs are sold in every corner of the street then you’re very likely to join the army for money and a better life. Matt said if his country ever decides to go to war then the burden should be equally shared (Just look around and you’ll find many many families, mostly the wealthy ones that are still emotionally unaffected by the war). His comment on the Bush twins who may join the war too is based on the fact that the over-privileged-higher section of the society who are little or unaffected by the war should be more concerned. When you’re taking the advantage of fighting a war with a volunteer army then you should give enough good and honest reasons to them and their families to send their children to war. I have read his quotes over and over but I haven’t found anything about disrespecting those volunteered men and women who are fighting to find the WMDs (which never existed) and catch/kill/arrest the terrorists in Iraq (I still don’t understand why America chose Iraq and not Afghanistan or Pakistan, which host headquarters of Laden and his associates). This is what Matt was asked ----------- QUESTION FROM STUDENT: I was just wondering, would either of you go to war right now? Not right now, I guess, but would you go to war if you were us? DE NIRO: Well that’s such a complex question. (LAUGHTER) DE NIRO: Well, I don’t know, that’s another thing about the draft and so on, if it ever would come up again. I mean, I was for going to Iraq originally and then I saw, I realized that when we went in we didn’t know how to deal with it once we were there. We just thought they’d all cheer us and we’d be out and then they’d want Democracy. We’re dealing with—we were just talking about before—the thousands of years old cultures that have all their in-fighting, whatever. I mean, we can’t come in unless we have a real plan or strategy and I never thought that. MATTHEWS: If you were drafted? DAMON: There is this great book that just came out about that called “Imperial Life in the Emerald City.” That’s definitely a book worth reading, just about that. We kind of blundered in there with the best intentions, but nevertheless without a plan. So, but in terms of your question, I agree with Bob that it’s a complex question. It would depend on certain situations. I don’t think that it’s fair, as I said before that it seems that we have a fighting class in our country that’s comprised of people who have to go for either financial reasons or you know, I don’t think that that is fair. And if you’re going to send people to war, if we all get together and decide we need to go to war, then that needs to be shared by everybody, you know. And if the president has daughters who are of age, then maybe they should go to. (APPLAUSE) Where exactly did Matt disrespect the army? He is referring to the fact that the country is divided into two opinion classes --- For war and Against war. Those who are supporting and willing to go to war have taken the status of the fighting class. A war is not fought by a certain section of the society. It enters war as a country. So its important to know and hear what others might be thinking about going to war. America is lucky to be fighting against Iraq with the consent of a portion of the population. Suppose it has been any powerful country in the world other than Iraq. Do you think that Bush administration had declared war against say England or Germany or China or Japan that easily without the consent of the majority of the population. America chose a wayyyy weaker country in the name of fighting against terrorists and took full advantage of its volunteer army to destroy it. There is nothing to be proud of it. If someone says that he isn’t then don’t call him names. Now that the entire world is against America, the American government is all up to rebuild Iraq. Are they kidding? Do you know how many years it takes to rebuild a war torn country? Will those American men and women still in Iraq are coming back any sooner? There are a good percentage of people (poor, middle, rich) who never supported the war from day one. They are not cowards or lesser patriots than those who supported the war. It was their right to choose. Matt however is one of them. In the interview he has said it a couple of times that the reasons to send the army to Iraq was never clear. He is a rich man but to accuse him to care more for his money than his country is not acceptable at all. Have you seen the article where he says that he has recently lost everything he owned in his apartment due to sprinkler malfunction and yet he wasn’t worried because his family was safe and happy. How many celebrities do you know who love their family more than their millions? To call someone ignorant/stupid/coward without fully knowing him or his views and intentions on a particular subject is not right IMHO. A man can show his chivalry in different situations in his life. One needs to see and appreciate that. He could’ve humiliated Minnie Driver publicly when she falsely accused him of dumping her in a famous talk-show. But never uttered a bad word against her even though he was smoked alive in public. He could’ve made an issue out of it when Minnie and her sister confessed that she lied. A man who doesn’t disrespect his bitchy ex will disrespect the army? WOW. He married a bartender who has an 8-year-old daughter, bought a home in Miami so that the child can stay close to her father will go to a show to promote his disrespect to his country’s army? Excellent. Since he has never involved the media to the charities he does doesn’t mean that he doesn’t do any charity. He is one of those actors who said that they are willing to pay more tax because they earn much more, so that the common people wont have to pay huge taxes. Such a man is disrespectful to those who are guarding his country? -------- awesome. For those who still love Damon, here is a part of the same interview where he praises President Bush. I’ve known very few men other than my father who despite having serious deviation in opinions with someone will still go on to praise his good work. Such unbiased men are very honorable. Here --------- DAMON: But, I would also say that I do some work with a group here in D.C. called Data. They’re part of the parent organization of the One campaign who prioritize Africa and issues of extreme poverty. And whoever’s in there, Republican or Democrat, I hope they take up that issue. And I will say that I disagree with George Bush about a lot of things, but so far, his emergency plan for AIDS relief, is an outstanding... MATTHEWS: In Africa. DAMON: In Africa. MATTHEWS: Is the money getting through? DAMON: The money—not only is the money getting through, but I’ve been there and I’ve seen—I have met people who are alive because of that money. It is the only place you can actually look at our tax dollars and equate it with lives saved. It’s a fantastic program, along with the global fund, and the president should be applauded for it. (APPLAUSE) Wish you all a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. Hope those brave men and women still stuck in Iraq comeback to their families safe and soon. I for one still love Damon and will watch his every film to support his right of free speech however controversial they may seem to those who has equal right to disagree with him.

Cravin.. I am sorry if I made you feel weird about it.. I was actually just making light of the statements I have seen over the last oh 6 months on POP by people making the statement that they won't go to see someones movies anymore. I wasn't trying to pick you out or single you out of the crowd..your comment just triggered the idea for the joke... I apologize if it offended. Furthermore..... I apologize to any relatives, decendants or hard core fans of Fatty Arbuckle as well. I love all opinions.. thats what makes Pop great. And I love my republican popples as misguided as they might be (KIDDING) and even those who hate my beloved Brad and Angie (You know who you are) and dare I say it even those who mistakenly believe Tom is straight (shudder). And I wish you all a wonderful winter holiday time whatever it may be that each and everyone of you celebrate or don't. :) Wow that was difficult to word. ______________________________________________________ King and Queen of Crazy Town!

Cravinsugar.. I feel your pain.. my husband will be a Democratic if I say I am a Republican... he drives me insane with that. I say yes to global warming and he says no.. I say no he says yes. He is this debater and it drives me nuts.. sometimes I just want him to agree with me. Oh well, I knew what I was getting into I guess. LOL Also... Iam was most likely responding to my post about boycotting movies. I take no offense because she has really good points. Someone who starts calling me dumb or something is someone I get annoyed at. Don't feel mad.. iti s the holidays!! Come to my window so we can look out for TinyTom Cruise's UFO decorated in lights!! We will sit by the tin foil and sing songs from the body snatchers!! It will be FUN!!!!LOL.. JennaV WTF was that Danny Devito thing? Someone in Hollywood shorter than TinyTom? How can that be?

I will take your word that imabeliever is a great person and that she wasn't trying to ta attack me. When i feel cornered i get defensive like i think most people do. I appreciate this site and that we can all voice our opinions and although I may seem to get heated sometimes, I love everyone here! Jsut to let you know, my dad and boyfriend think it is fun to argue with me so they purposefully say things to get on my nerves until they have me all worked up then they laugh at me...and i laugh...infact, i was laughing most of the imte I was replying to this stuff--not because i thought it was laughable but I really do enjoy a good debate. I'm all in.

I agree, Ima is a great person. Danny Devito on the view???? HAHAHAHA!!! That was some funny shite!

Cravinsugar... Imabeliever is a great person. I really don't think she was picking on anyone. I agree with your boycott and that some, not all, celebs are not informed!! I totally think Matt is one of those jump on band wagon to promote my movie.. also Danny Devito.. never heard anything rude about Bush until he had a movie out.. someone like Penn who actually educates himself.. whether I agree or disagree.. will get my respect and $$ for his movies. Anyone who bases their opinion on what a Celeb says has a lot more problems than what that celeb actually said. That being said Imabeliever has awesome points. That is why this site is great. I have my views but sometimes someone on another side makes a great point that I agree with.

Imabeliever, I was just re-reading your previous comments, and, I respect what you have to say, and I also respect the opnions and beliefs of my coworkers who are all democratic. We playfully debate on occasion and end up laughing in the end. I don't appreciate how you made me feel by your comments "glad your morals only include these 4 stars since if you were to add the rest who have democratic points of view, choose to use their right to freedom of speech or whose morals didn't meet your standards" For one, I have not chosen to boycott brad pitt or angelina jolie at this time even though i don't agree with everything they say. Secondly, there are many people I know that don't have the same morals I do, and I don't judge them. I assume their parents raised them the way they were for a reason and it isn't my place to say anything. I do have my standards but don't think less of everyone who doesn't have them also, but I do disagree with some lifestyles and choices. hate the sin, love the sinner is how i was raised. Third, it is my right to freedom of speech to also disagree and call for boycott based off of my beliefs. BTW, I thought kirk cameron did a great job in the left behind movie. I wish they would do more based off of those books. And, I haven't seen a single movie on that list that has already been released to begin with. Lastly, I don't boycott everything democratic. If I did I wouldn't be working in the city i do for the people i do...just outlandish extreme remarks that make me mad. I think everyone here would also do the same if they heard something that made them mad...whether it has to do with politics or not. I'm all i

Ohsuri..its an actual cover of New York magazine..I just covered the other stories at the top with the King and Queen tag... thanks And there was a time I said that I wouldn't watch anymore Woody Allen movies but Proof looked too good to miss and I still love annie Hall and Purple Rose of Cairo.. but the Fatty Arbuckle fuck him I refuse to see any of his movies and I mean that one! LOL entertainment is entertainment in the end. ______________________________________________________ King and Queen of Crazy Town!

Hey Iambeliever!! Love ya back!! Great actor.. he will be missed!! Love YOUR picture!! Did you do that? I completely respect everyones opinion.. unless they like TinyTom.. JK!

I am only boycotting the movies of actor who speak out about it in an uninformed way. I also don't listen to cheryl crow anymore since she ruined a concert i went to one time. and to be quite honest... And by the way Imabeliever, that is a nice point...but some of us feel conviction toward these things and will actually follow through. Thank you for pointing out these movies to me as I won't watch the trailers to try and tempt my beliefs. I'm all in.

Don't need to boycott movies.. just pointing out how out spoken these people tend to be when they have a movie to promote. I have nothing against people having an opinion. Half of them I agree with.. however just jumping on a Bush bashing band wagon to sell movies is pathetic to me!!! JMO. Sean Penn puts his money.. and body where his mouth is. Someone like little Matt standing behind his gated house yelling like a child makes me laugh. AJ going to a country and seeing the horror and little Matt standing there throwing his hands up to start a riot about Bush.. he is not EVEN CLOSE to being on the same playing field as those other actors.

Yadda yadda.. I hate how these actors ONLY COME OUT with nasty things to say when they have a movie out!! It is so sad how they use the Iraq war to sell THEMSELVES!!! I am disgusted that those brave soliders fight FOR HIM to get richer!! Whatever my opinion on the war is.... maybe Matt should read a little and see that these soliders signed up for the army!!! I hope one day his family never needs protection from all the people he insults!! Oh wait.. he hires body guards for that!! Got the double standard here. He can defend his family with the money he makes off of the people PROTECTING HIM!!!
