Friday Feel-Good: 40-Year-Old Woman Hears For the First Time

Four weeks ago, 40-year-old Joanne Milne received a cochlear implant, a surgery that would give her the ability to hear for the first time since she was born. Joanne suffers from a rare condition known as Usher's syndrome. The video above shows the moment the implants were first turned on, and Joanne broke down as an audio specialist at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital recited the days of the week. The reaction has an incredible effect. Her mother, who captured everything on video, said, "I wanted to record the moment when her implants were switched on. It was just wonderful, and I had tears running down my face. We all did." Watch the video above, and prepare to be moved.
