Is Fur Fabulous or a Faux Pas?

We welcome the pics of the non-drunk, covered up Tara Reid at Sundance. It's much better than seeing Tara's ass in her bikini. However, Tara loves to wear her fur. So what do you really think... is it okay to keep warm in the winter with fur?

You know what I wonder? how does she get money for all her clothes and restaurants and the like? She has not acted in ages ... oh, well she did that thing in Australia but still. I just don't know how she can afford all this stuff.

...I'll say, " No comment to the fur thing". More importantly, Tara is so OVER WITH--- I am embarrassed for her. I think its time she started looking for a new gig...perhaps her local McDonald's or grocery store.

In china, domestic dogs are used for fur We've got seal hunting up north here in Canada (and these little creatures are actually declining in population) Crocs, elephants, gorillas, etc. have all been the victims of poaching, handbags and expensive shoes, ivory goods, etc. They have ruined the very intricate and highly developed social sturctures of these animals by depleting and butchering their entire populations. What makes an animal a pest? As to the term "pests", it is a very subjective term. One thing that is not subjective though, is humanity's detrimental effect on the environment. We are the biggest polluters, and pests for this earth. Our ecosystems have been damaged by our heavy industrialization. These "pests" come nowhere near the level of destruction we have created.

thats right they teach you how to percieve what is "alive" and what has "rights" and what is not and does not. I think personally there is nothing wrong with fur, I don't think anything is right in excess, I wouldn't go out of my way to obtain a fur but hey if its a gift then sure. not to mention alot of these animals are pests anyway they and detrimental to farmers so I don't know what to tell you. Neutrias (sp) were once very popular in the fur trade and then were set free (when I lived in New Orleans you could see them in the city in the cannals) they were pests, and honestly I'd rather of had them killed for a coat than some of the problems they caused. Some of these animals if just released would reak havoc on the local ecosystems. What do you propose we do with the animals once the fur trade is over?

Plants and insects do not have the complex nervous systems found in mammals. And by this, I don't mean that it is acceptable to run around ripping flowers off the ground, sawing down trees, and stomping on insects. These are destructive acts. Either way, this sub-topic detracts from the original point of this debate, which is that the fur industry is unnecessarily cruel. You do not need fur to fulfill a physiological need. And you don't need to resort to such abhorent means to obtain an animal's pelt. In fact, you don't need it period. Fur is based on a want, not a need, and you need to balance out whether obtaining it is worth the suffering and hardship the animal endured. We have animal cruelty laws, but of course, this just generates too much revenue to be outlawed. Our compassion is selective, our laws are flawed, and I just cannot agree with the use of fur.

Yikes, I'm glad I live in Canada where the education system teaches us the difference between a sentient being and a carrot.

I think aslong as we are still plucking flowers from the ground, yes this may sound silly but flowers are alive and feel pain ect, and if you think about they are it killed in a quite violent manner, but why do we care about mamals more than we do these other living things. If you are gonna complain about fur and ignore this cruelty to a living thing then thats not rigt.

Yes, child porn is illegal, but it still gives many people lots of revenue and keeps the machine nicely oiled. Fur is legal, but it is not fair or humane. We should work to continually improve how we treat each other; not just humans, but the rest of the living world around us. This is our obligation as the "dominant" speceis, to make our world better. How can we do this if we continually exclude certain groups because they are of lesser importance? Why can't we show concern for every creature, whether human or not? This will not lessen the intensity or focus of our fight for human rights and equality. It will broaden our ability to empathise and make our world a more peaceful, fair place.

Child Porn is already Illegal what I'm saying is before we start focusing on animal rights we should focus on the laws we already have and try and make those work before we start adding more to our plate. FUR IS NOT against the law, these people are making money in perfectly legal ways.

animals are here for us to use? wow arent u an elitist. i hope a lion or bear uses u for food :)

If we end child porn we take down a billion dollar industry too. Is it reasonable to keep things just the way they are because people make money off of it?

No offence, sweetascandi81, but that is perhaps the most ridiculous pro-fur arguement I've ever encountered in my life. The level of ignorance and stupidity in that type of reasoning is baffling. Basically, what you are saying is that any living being that cannot hold a dominant position in its environment is inherently worthless, and not entitled to a dignified life free of exploitation and misery. I cannot wrap my mind around this type of logic.

Daisy I know we need to eat to survive. I'm just saying we are starting to judge what is alive and what is not, flowers are alive, and yet we rip them up, weeds, ect. Yes plants have been shown to respond to voice touch, and feel pain, Trees have even been shown to respond to Hurtful thoughts towards them. I mean whose to say whats alive and what has feelings. I think we should focus more on ending Family abuse, Human murder, unemployment, poverty, human Genocide Before we worry about ending the fur trade(which atleast keeps people employed! Cruel or not if you end the fur trade alot of people would be left without jobs.)

Awesome statement RCLdesigngirl, and I completely agree with you! Animals are here for us to use, it's not like they're going to do something amazing with their lives. And PETA can kiss my ass! ~Trust Fate*Have Hope*Love Always~

serena' is right, being pro-animal rights doesn't make you anti-human. I think it's really odd when people assume the two are mutually exclusive. As well as the SPCA and my local humane society, I also donate to the mens mission homeless shelter, save the children, and the YWCA homeless shelter my sister works at. In my experience most people passionate about animals are also very into causes that benefit homeless & hungry children and other less fortunate members of society. Living in a democratic society you have the freedom to educate yourself about many different causes, you arn't limited to one cause per person!

I just clicked on that dead web site. That is the saddest thing I have ever seen. I don't wear fur.. not because I am an advocate but now I think I might join the cause. Just as a human to see something suffer like that for its fur.

As for Tara...I think she looks and conducts herself way better than before so let's all give her a break. The girl is trying...let's at least commend her for her efforts.

geez people...as much as I hate animal cruelty...i just coudn't understand how "furious" people would react to the "fur" issue considering the fact that these people came from a culture where abortion is ok. I just couldn't get it.
