stephely first of all Florida is used to dealing with hurricanes...what happened in Louisiana wasn't the Hurricane that ruined things so much as it was the levees breaking. Florida does NOT have a levee problem. AND.....Florida accepted help from many companies that were willing to send crews, they always welcome any help, just as South Carolina did with Hurricaine HUGO..I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT. When some of the SAME CREWS went to New Orleans to help they were TURNED AWAY because they wanted their own people getting the contracts not outsiders...I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT also. My father and brother have a very large debris removal company in South Carolina, when they go to Florida to help with hurricanes, (often), their crews are there for about 3 weeks to a month, that's long enough to where local crews have a handle on things...in New Orleans, they were turned away the DAY THEY GOT THERE along with other help from Georgia and Texas. My brother-in-law lives right outside of New Orleans in a place called Harahan and he said a year 1/2 after the storm there was still debris and garbage in places. New Orleans shot it's own self in the foot by not accepting help when it was offered. Bush wasn't calling those shots, the corrupt local government was!

Hi stephley, I agree with your comments; it's good to hear people discuss some politics even on this site. It's great that George Clooney and those like him evoke such discussions nowadays. GC really does help to further the cause of international understanding which I admire him greatly for.

Whatever caused the problems, when the levees broke and all hell broke loose, the Bush Adminstration's response was slow and inadequate. It was a failure of leadership at that point. Compare it to the federal response after Hurricane Andrew.

I have to put my two cents in on Bush's "gross indifference to the catastrophe facing the residents of New Orleans from Katrina". I'm from Louisiana and the seeds of the catastrophe were sown long before George Bush set foot in the Oval Office. The levy system surroundung New Orleans has been a concern for years, but the state government didn't care enough to fix it. They took federal funds that could have saved lives and homes in New Orleans, and threw it away on useless pet projects. In Louisiana people know the reality and understand who truly is to blame for what happened, and for the aftermath. Instead of being accountable for the state's failures Blanco and Nagin pointed their fingers at the Federal government. None of us in Louisiana were buying it. Katrina didn't just create issues, it uncovered a lot of pre existing problems that Bush had nothing to do with. You can blame him for whatever else you like, but not for this.

It was part of a response to #4... and I'm not sure where you've been since electing bush twice, but he and his administration savaged the Constitution by manipulating intelligence to deceive the American public and launch a war against Iraq - without the declaration of war from Congress that the Constitution clearly requires, in defiance of the U.N. Charter and in violation of international law. Congress could also explore the wiretapping that has violated the FISA law (and if no laws were violated, why is anyone considering amnesty for the telecoms), the President's role in mistreatment of detainees and his gross indifference to the catastrophe facing the residents of New Orleans from Katrina.

I elected Bush Twice, and what part of the constituion has he "savaged" and what does that have to do with The UN and Clooney and Darfur?

This pack of celeb dogooders like George and Don Cheadle and the Pitts are great examples for the rest of the country - it wasn't Hollywood that elected Bush twice and sat by while he savaged the Constitution!
