Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Have Flawless Responses For Janet Hubert's Oscars Dis

Will Smith [1] and Jada Pinkett Smith [2] aren't letting Janet Hubert's comments about Jada's decision to boycott the Oscars [3] get them down. Many well-known celebrities have come to the defense of Jada's stance on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy [4], and although Janet's harshly worded video message [5] for the couple [6] was enough to raise a few eyebrows, Jada's taking it all in stride. Entertainment Tonight spoke to Jada [7] about the ordeal, and the Gotham actress had an eloquent response for Janet. "Here's the deal: this whole Oscars controversy isn't really about the Oscars," she told them. "Really, it's my plea to ask our community, people of color, to take back our power so that we can use it in all sectors of our community, and right now, specifically with African American people, we have some very serious issues that we as a people have to move together on. I'm hoping that we can find ways to step together in this, instead of finding ways to fight each other. I got love for everybody."

Will also had words to share on the subject, although he didn't address his former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air costar's jabs directly. "I was knocked over. I was happy to be married to that woman, but I appreciated the push," he told Robin Roberts on Good Morning America [8] on Thursday. "There's a position that we hold in this community, and if we're not a part of the solution, we're a part of the problem." Although some wondered if Jada's refusal to attend the ceremony was only because Will wasn't nominated for his role in Concussion [9], the actor said that wasn't so. "Had I been nominated and no other people of color were, she would have made the video anyway," he said, putting any lingering doubts to rest.
