Jason Derulo talks girlfriend Jordin Sparks and why breaking his neck was a blessing! Hey there, I'm Karli Bulnes. We catch up with the recording star at the studio ahead of his big American Idol performance in today's PopSugar Rush. "Did you ask Jordin for any advice on taking the Idol stage?/I didn't but I should, as time gets closer I'm going to need that support." Jason Derulo says girlfriend and former American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is the perfect person to get guidance from before he takes the stage on the singing competition next week. The hitmaker is scheduled to perform on the May 22nd episode — his first show since breaking his neck in January — and while the injury interrupted plans for a world tour, Jason told PopSugar editor Lindsay Miller that the ordeal was actually a blessing in disguise. "I think me breaking my neck, as crazy as this sounds, is one of the best things that's ever happened to me because the world was able to slow down and I was able to learn so much from it, I was able to spend time with my family and the people that mean the most." Jordin is of course one of Jason's special someones, and he says fans can expect to hear the couple make sweet music on some new tracks together! "So we've been doing a couple of songs together because I really want to get her on the album somehow so I don't know what that song is yet I mean we've done a couple as of now but the whole record is a compilation of different material of things I've been compiling of things I've gone through you know through this whole experience of me injuring my neck, it's taught me a lot so I am coming from a different perspective this time." A bedazzled-neck-brace-wearing Jason showed off his good spirit at the Burbank recording studio where we spoke to him about the special song he'll be singing on Idol . . . . . . which was co-written by fans as part of Coca-Cola's Perfect Harmony program. Mr. Derulo's been following the season 11 Idol finalists closely . . . He says 16-year-old California girl Jessica Sanchez is his pick to come out on top and that he'd be honored to work with her one day. "Sure I think she has a brilliant future ahead of her, that would be cool." Tune in to American Idol tonight on Fox to find out which two contestants are picked to go head to head in the finals. I'm Karli Bulnes and thanks for watching PopSugar Rush.
