This Is What Happens When The Voice Asks an Award-Winning Musician to Audition

The Voice is known for sometimes featuring established musicians on its competition show (as opposed to America Idol, which is focused on musicians without record deals), but that doesn't mean every artist is willing to do it. Award-winning singer-songwriter Jason Isbell shared a snapshot of an email he got from an alleged talent producer for The Voice asking the musician to audition for a spot on the show. Jason wrote, "Excerpt from REAL email I received today from a producer on The Voice. He's been researching online." It's safe to say that Jason was not flattered by the offer to appear on the competition show.

Jason, who has a strong following in the indie country scene and previously played with Drive-By Truckers, saw the lighter side of the email, later tweeting that he'd "accepted" the offer to audition, noting that he would perform a French horn rendition of "Oh Comely" by Neutral Milk Hotel while wearing a bikini. As Rolling Stone notes, Jason's latest album, Southeastern, has sold nearly the same amount of copies as Frame by Frame, the latest album from The Voice's most popular winner, Cassadee Pope.
