I guess I should have said that I don't think there is anything wrong with Kate being the disciplinarian and Jon being the nurturer for their children. I am not trying to say that she was right to discipline Jon.

I think I know what Sophie827 means - I am also a long time watcher of Jon and Kate + 8. She was rude to him, but it was usually related to something stressful, particularly when people were in her kitchen and she was trying to get something done. Her rudeness seemed thoughtless and impulsive instead of abusive and purposeful. When they were interviewing in their chair at the end of each episode (when things were quieter in the house) she always seemed much more respectful and loving with him. At the time I was watching the show I thought that she could be really horrible, but as I watch their actions in the tabloids now, it seems like TLC may have highlighted those parts of their relationship for shock/entertainment value. I don't blame Jon for trying to laugh off her rudeness when the cameras were rolling (I would probably do the same thing, and then ask my spouse to be nicer when we were off camera), so I don't think that he brought all this on himself for being too passive; however, I do NOT think that Kate brought this divorce on herself by being controlling and mean. She wasn't always mean to him, even on the show. Jon's actions since the announcement have shown him to be immature, self-centered and even a little vindictive. Kate has comported herself with a grace that I did not expect of her. I do not think that their respective attitudes reveal anything about what caused the divorce - but I do respect Kate more for her attitude in recent months. If anything, people's comments on posts such as this one reveal our society's expectations for men and women. People who denigrate Kate as a "bitch" reveal just how much pressure women are under to be loving nurturers. People who criticize Jon for being a pushover show the pressure that men are under to be strong leaders within the family. Jon and Kate didn't play by those gender roles in their family. Kate was the disciplinarian (even disciplining Jon) and Jon was the nurturer. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I find Jon's interview here to be very disheartening. He is playing to those gender expectations (especially the ones that paint Kate in a bad light) and he is making himself out to be a victim when he is not. Sorry for the long post. I've just been thinking and thinking about WHY this divorce has been such a hot topic.

I think there's a difference between being emotionally abusive and being bitchy. People who are emotionally abusive set out to destroy someone's self esteem and confidence so they can mold them into whatever they like. Kate was just a control freak and inconsiderate - if he'd explained how the things she said really made him feel (rather than just making light hearted jokes) then she probably would have make an effort to stop. She seems bitchy but she doesn't seem like a bad person (if that makes sense)

They both got themselves in this position, so this mud-slinging isn't unexpected. They get what they deserve.

I think they're both a couple of fame mongering losers. If their #1 priority was really their kids, they'd have found a way to get OUT of the show when they realized their marriage was over. It's bad enough those kids have had to grow up in the spot light, now they have to deal with the two most important people in their lives splashing every detail all over every news source? This shouldn't be about "Jon's bad" or "Kate's bad" it should be about what's best for those kids, and this spotlight is NOT it.

agree with McFearless...also to add, yes she was very bossy with him but it's his fault for being so passive and lazy, he should have put his foot down from the beginning, he's always been a bum and whiner and he's extended that reputation even more. He's not a real man, real douche is what Jon is!

And just to clarify.. she was rude to him yes, but he never told her it bugged him. He acted as if it was just fun and jokes. He went and cheated on her! No sympathy for a cheater. Its one thing to ask for a divorce but to cheat? And because of those actions the papz have been on his family's property 24/7 and in the faces of his kids. All because of his choice to cheat on his wife- thats what started this all.

I don't know what to believe. Which side to take - not that it's up to me in any way, of course. None one of them asked for eight kids, they wanted three, right? And eight kids in the middle of something like this... It really is a shame. I was watching their TV show a few days a go, and to me it looks like Kate's got the control - at least trying and doing a good job - and she's a really good mother, but Jon... well, he's just their, treating his kids like they're thirty years old. But Jon is also a very good father, I believe. Bless the kids.
