Kesha Opens Up About Her Lawsuit Against Dr. Luke: "It Is Definitely a Mind F*ck"

Jan 19 2017 - 3:00pm

After Kesha dropped [1] her heartbreaking and high-profile sexual assault lawsuit against Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald [2] back in August, the pop star returned to her hometown of Nashville for some much-needed privacy. With the exception of an interview with The New York Times [3] in October and the announcement of a potential tour [4], fans of the "True Colors" [5] singer have been itching for an update. The 29-year-old, a high school dropout who signed a record deal at just 18, is finally back in our lives thanks to the second episode of Viceland's music show Noisey [6].

Kesha gives host Zach Goldbaum a tour of her favorite dive bar in Nashville and opens up about what she's been through "mentally" since the lawsuit. "When you work really hard at something, then to have it taken away from you is pretty devastating," she says, choked up. "I worked my ass off for a lot of years to be able to do it. I sang backup vocals and the first couple songs I was on, I didn't give a f*ck because I just had this one vision. Once you earn that and make that happen, then to have it taken away from you is pretty devastating. It is definitely a mind f*ck." Luckily it seems that, with the help of songwriting and a reinvigorated passion for country music, she's healing.
