Kristen Stewart on Inequality in Hollywood: "Instead of Complaining, Do Something"

Jan 26 2016 - 8:30am

Kristen Stewart [1] has weighed in on the ongoing conversation of inequality in Hollywood [2], and her comments may raise a few eyebrows. During an interview with Variety [3] at the Sundance Film Festival, the former Twilight [4] star called the subject "boring," and said, "Instead of sitting around and complaining about that, do something," adding, "Go write something, go do something." She continued: "And that's easy to say. Like, f*ck, it's hard to get movies made. It's a huge luxury. Who gets to just make movies? But that subject is just so prevalently everywhere right now, and it's boring." Watch Kristen's comments above now, then see which other Hollywood stars have spoken out [5] about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.

Update: Variety originally reported that Kristen's comments were about diversity. They have since changed the post to clarify that her quotes were addressing gender equality: "Correction: An earlier version of the text accompanying this video erroneously attributed Stewart's comments to 'diversity.' We have since clarified above that her comments were addressing gender equality."
