After a very public battle with the Church of Scientology, Leah Remini kept a low profile while leaving a Beverly Hills doctor's office today. Leah, who recently left Scientology, filed a missing person's report regarding church leader David Miscavige's wife, Shelly, this week, but yesterday police ended the investigation, explaining: "The LAPD has classified the report as unfounded, indicating that Shelly is not missing." Prior to Leah's decision to alert the police, it had been reported that Shelly Miscavige had not been seen in public for at least six years.
As for the Church of Scientology, it responded with harsh words for Leah, saying: "Creating this unnecessary burden for law enforcement was even more irresponsible given the entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Ms. Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the Internet." The strong response continued, "Ms. Remini has aligned herself with a handful of untrustworthy, lunatic tabloid sources who obsessively harass the Church to advance their selfish agendas." Leah's questions about Shelly's whereabouts were said to cause a rift between her and Scientology, which she joined at a young age. She left the church and is reportedly considering a Scientology tell-all book, indicating more clashes might come.
