Matt Damon Wants The Bush Girls to go to War

It seems as if Matt and Angelina are opening up a lot these days while promoting their new movie. While Angie is finally telling us about loving Brad, Matt is getting quite political. I know some of you are over my Matt obsession but whenever I see his movies or read his interviews I just end up liking him more. Matt stopped by MSNBC’s Hardball with Robert De Niro in an interview to air tonight. He told the audience that he thinks that President Bush's daughters should go to war. The show doesn't air until tonight but the clip is already raising a few eyebrows. See for yourself.

the president should know how it feels to put his own kids in battle and think about it every night wondering if they're ok... he won't even let the troops come back... what kind of president is that? those are ppl's family, friends...etc...

Where on earth did I say he was "really smart"? I said he was far from UNEDUCATED, clay-t. I also disagree with him on this issue.

Jennifer, you ROCK. But unfortunately if you did not notice the left wingers that have posted here do not care about the facts. They choose to join Damon in the sand with their heads in there deep.. Perhaps we should let George Clooney, Bill Maher, Hilary Clinton, Jon Kerry and Matt Damon protect the country, along with all the sheep that follow them. Lets pull out of Iraq and let a new dictator take over that will make Saddam's slaughter of 600,000 people look like a walk in the park. Then they can deal with North Korea like Bill Clinton did and help support another dictator with food, since the dictator spends most of his GNP on the military and nukes. Speaking of nukes, lets send Damon to Iran as I am sure he and the current president of Iran can speak about how the hollocaust never happened, which it did, then toast one another when they fire a Chinese made rocket with an Iranian nuclear war head over Hollywood. But just keep fooling yourselves into believing that a Hollywood celebrity is really smart because he dropped out of Harvard. I'm sure the more money he throws out to coerce you via movies will help our Democracy to survive since our fellow citizens in the military are poor and stupid according to Mr. Damon.

OK, I'm not a Matt Damon fan, but he is far from uneducated. He attended Harvard and dropped out something like a semester shy of graduation. Plus, a degree or college education is not indicative of someone's intelligence. I know plenty of people with advanced degrees who aren't the sharpest tolls in the sheds.

if matt damon is so concerned about a working class military, then maybe HE as a WEALTHY upper class american should enlist to defend his right to run his uneducated non college degree-ed mouth

President Bush discussed invading Iraq in January 2001. It was during the first meeting of his National Security Team. This was long before 9/11. While he and his team were focusing on Iraq they were ignoring Bin Laden and Al Queda. Bush has had a long standing intent to invade Iraq. 9/11 became his excuse to so. The Downing Street Memo revealed that the head of British Foreign Intelligence informed Tony Blair that Bush wanted to oust Saddam Hussein by military action and warned that the Washington Intelligence was being "fixed around the policy." This meeting took place on July 23, 2002. People within the intelligence community have stated that the Bush administration "cherry picked" the intellgence. They ignored any intelligence that stated Iraq had no WMD. Colin Powell has stated that the administration knew that the information he was giving to the UN had been disproved but did not inform him. There is plenty of evidence that the country was lied to but I have to get back to work.

Trixie6 I don't have the time right now, I' supposed to be working; but I will tell post later on how we were lied into this war by Bush. I never just talk off the top of my head. I truly believe this man lied to the country. I'll post when I have a real break.

Did anyone see the interview yesterday? I missed it thanks to my bad memory and my boyfriend's need to watch a movie with me last night.

I know I said I was done with this thread, but many of you insist on believing what is CLEARLY not true. THIS is why I am calling Matt Damon ignorant. These facts are pulled from all four branches of the military. -"[R]ecruits in 2004 and 2005 came primarily from middle-class areas. Poor areas are proportionally underrepresented in the wartime years (2003–2005). -"For 2005 recruits, [the median household income] was $43,238. The national median published in Census 2000 was $41,994." -"[T]he national recruit high school graduation rate [is] 98 percent and the national youth graduation rate [is] 75 percent." -"[T]he Department of Defense reported that the mean reading level of 2004 recruits is a full grade level higher than that of the comparable youth population." In other words, contrary to the idea that "we have a fighting class in our country that’s comprised of people who have to go for either financial reasons or..." we ACTUALLY have a fighting class that comes from a slightly HIGHER socioeconomic class than the country as a whole and with MORE education than their age group in the country as a whole. His statement is not only COMPLETELY FALSE it's highly insulting and frankly really freaking condescending. I can't link to my sources because links aren't allowed in Popsugar comments, but most of this comes from DOD published data and Census data.

I think Matt has a point. Hi make a point that hi don't like the war like lots of other people. I think its sad that people voluntary because of the money and had to fight in the front-line in Iraq/Afghanistan. Its young people ho risk their life for the family because of "All" the money. I like Matt because hi has own meanings and don't say the same as Al other people.

Matt, you are my hero. To those who say he is stupid because he is old enough to go--he doesn't support this war, BUSH does. Please try to pay attention. Also, to the person that said his daughters would go if they were in the armed forces--uhhhh, if his dad supports the war so much WHY are his daughters NOT in the armed forces. That is the whole point. It's really not that complicated.

What Matt said was not ignorant! It was honest.I think alot of people look up to celebs and most people in the USA now do not agree with the war in Iraq,so him speaking out against it more people listen b/c he's in the limelight. I totally agree, parents are losing their kids to the war, getting messages that their child has died in battle. That is heart breaking! How would Bush feel if his daughters were in battle right now? I'm sure their safety would be on his mind 24/7.

liliblu - Before I say anything else, let me just make it clear that I don't support the war. Having said that, I wish someone would explain to me how Bush lied us into this war. Based on the intelligence he had, Bush went to Congress and Congress approved sending the military to Iraq. If the intelligence given to Bush was flawed, how is that his fault? On top of that, if Bush deliberately lied to start this war, don't you think the politicians who are so rabidly against him would be screaming for his impeachment. Hell, they tried to impeach Clinton for lying to the American people about a blow job. Jen76 - Bless your heart. I hope you're feeling better. You're not the only one who had to walk away from the computer.

I had to post when I saw some of the comments. I was going to respond to the posts about taxes and education but I stopped myself. NONE of those Ramblings are the issue. I think Matt Damon made an excellent point. Would Bush have LIED this country into war if his daughters faced the possiblity of having to fight? I say NO. He flew planes over Texas while other young men like my uncle fought and died in Vietnam. Bush connected Saddam H. with 9/11 & Bin Laden as often as he could even though he knew there was no link between them. There were no weapons of Mass Destruction, he knew there was no evidence of that. Now people expect soldiers to fight without any clear reason or goal. They may have volunteered to serve, but it was with the belief that those in charge would never put them in harms way without a legitimate reason. It is the duty of all American citizens to speak out when we disagree with what our government is doing. People seem to forget that the president & congress work for us. We don't serve them.
Hollygolitely Hollygolitely 9 years
I didn't read everything, but someone said that Matt wanted to give more tax money to the government but the rich still got a tax break. Well, he and all celebs are paying more taxes than the rest of us. They have to pay taxes on all gifts they recieve. It's awesome! So, at least they are contributing that much more than they used to. Maybe that money they had to contribute this year and from now on will help lower our taxes in the future. I would like to know if the new celeb tax is a direct result of Matt and Ben wanting to give their tax refund back to the government? And congress said, "oh, really?" and decided to tax celebs more than anyone else. I read that the Oscars, who usually has a $30,000(?) gift bag for everyone is NOT doing it this year. Celebs don't want to pay the taxes on it! So, the money is going to charity, as it should have always done.

t0xxic...wow. You bring up a lot of great points. It's always sad to hear about all of the bad stuff that happens in war...I hope the rest of your family stays safe.

I am sure esk4... I was just using that to illustrate that we don't know if they agree or not because someone said it doesn't matter if Matt would go or not because he is against the war...they may be against the war and if they are it shouldn't matter what their daddy says. I'm all in.

Em yes he is my 2 year old. and your right it may get heated but debate is good bc maybe some one will learn something! The "war" irrates me so. If we look at it by war definentions its not even a war anymore it hasnt been since a like 2 months after it started. So why are all these men of ours still dieing still getting hurt there not even fighting a technical war, there doing some operation to bring a country whole that honestly could give 2 craps less if we helped them rebuild there country or not. I have 2 god brothers over there and I grew up in a military town where pretty much anyone I went to highschool with has made there way over there and an ex of mine was paralyzed and will never see or hear again, this whole thing whether it was over a legitament reason or not and whether its a war or operation or mission or whatever it needs to be called is ruining to many american lives an families. And its really really really sad.
