Meghan Markle Confirms She's "Absolutely Not" Going Back to Acting

Meghan Markle is, indeed, done with acting. In March 2017, E! News reported the former "Suits" star was "ready to be done" with her USA Network series and "acting in general" amid her blossoming romance with now-husband, Prince Harry. "Even before Harry, she was starting to think about transitioning out of acting," a source told the outlet. "She wants to focus on other worldly endeavors she is passionate about, like her philanthropy."

Markle, who quit acting in late 2017 after playing paralegal Rachel Zane for seven seasons on "Suits," addressed why she decided to leave the entertainment industry at that time in a November 2017 interview with BBC. "I don't see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change," she said. "It's a new chapter. And also keep in mind I've been working on my show for seven years. So, we were very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series. For me, once we hit the 100 episode marker, I thought, I have ticked this box and I feel really proud of the work I've done there and now it's time to work as a team with you [Harry]."

The Duchess of Sussex revisits the topic of her acting career in her Variety cover story, published Oct. 19, in which she was asked if she'd ever consider going back to it. "No. I'm done," she tells the outlet. "I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not."

Though acting is off the table for Markle, she says it'd be "great!" if her and Harry's children — Archie and Lilibet — ever decided to get involved in the entertainment industry. "When you become a parent, you genuinely want your kids to find the things that bring them complete joy," she adds in her cover story. "They're our kids, obviously, and they're part of a legacy and a tradition and a family that will have other expectations. But I want them to be able to carve out their own path. If it's the entertainment industry, great. And also, good luck. There are so many people that will talk about what opened the door for my children. But it still takes talent and a lot of grit. We're creating multidimensional, interesting, kind, creative people. That's who our kids are."

Now, Markle hasn't totally departed from entertainment since her onscreen days. In fact, she and Harry have their hands in all sorts of upcoming projects on account of their Archewell production company and multiyear Netflix and Spotify deals. The couple is currently working with director Liz Garbus and Netflix on a forthcoming docuseries, though an official name and release date have yet to be shared. Markle also has her "Archetypes" podcast, which has already released episodes with stars like Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling, Constance Wu, and Paris Hilton.

Markle and Harry's other known projects include a documentary about the Invictus Games and what would've been an animated series titled "Pearl" from Netflix, though the streamer axed the project in May due to a stock drop, per Deadline.
