Miss Philippines contestant Megan Young was crowned Miss World 2013 in Bali on Saturday, winning the title following weeks of controversy. The 23-year-old, US-born winner moved to the Philippines at age 10, and she beat 126 other contestants before promising to be "the best Miss World ever." Miss France Marine Lorphelin was the pageant's first runner-up, with Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter as the second runner-up.
Miss World, the longest-running international beauty pageant, was originally supposed to take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, but protests from a conservative Muslim group triggered a last-minute change of location. Calling it a "whore contest," some Muslims in Indonesia — the world's most populous Muslim country — highlighted the swimsuit portion as particularly offensive, so pageant organizers requested that this year's Miss World contestants trade swimsuits for beachwear. Take a look at some of the best photos from the 2013 pageant.
