Natalie Portman For Elle Magazine

Natalie Talks About Her Projects and Project Runway

Marie Claire is not the only cover Natalie Portman scored for April — her pretty face also graces the issue of Elle. She went casual this time around, covering up those blonde locks with a cute hat. Speaking of which, which hair color do you prefer on Miss Natalie? As usual, Nat has plenty of serious stuff to talk about, but she also reveals that she still finds time for a little Project Runway. Here are highlights:

  • On trying to hide her ambitious nature: "It's definitely complicated. I bury it a lot, which is a very common woman thing to do. They say women often preface their statements with “This might sound stupid, but…” It sort of tempers what you are going to say. It takes the edge off so you can still be seen as ladylike. I think I have a lot of that in me. I'm very nonconfrontational; I'm definitely a pleaser."
  • On Project Runway: "I wish they'd thrown off Rami, because he was so mean to Sweet P! But the one I really like is the guy with glasses and the total Misshapes haircut."

Natalie may have given this interview awhile ago, but it sounds like she was right on point with her favorite pick making it to the Top 3. She probably caught the show last night, but if you missed it be sure to check out Buzz's rundown of the season finale.

I LOVE natalie...but I also LOVE Rami. How does she not like him? That whole being mean to Sweet P thing? Sweet P didn't actually know how to sew men's pants and Rami just got frustrated with her...does Natalie not like Rami because he's Palestinian? Ouch...I hope that's not it...I'd be really disappointed.

Absolutely agreed, girlfriday. A tidbit about the movie she did in Israel: from what I remember, apparently some Orthodox passers-by threw rocks at her and Aki Avni (an actor quite famous in Israel, whose restaurant I used to work at in L.A.) because they were filming what I think was a kissing scene by the Wailing Wall. Also, to the poster who said that she only works because she's a Jew in Hollywood--I can't agree with that. She has been acclaimed as one of the most talented actresses of her generation, and for a long time, which I absolutely agree with. She's done everything from quirky comedies to dark sf, Star Wars to mature drama like Closer, and done them all equally well.

Naima, that's extremely uninformed. It isn't fair to ascribe some thought to Natalie or Rami or any other Palestinian or Israeli because of their nationality or religion. All Jews and/or Israelis don't hate Palestinians and want to bomb them and vice versa, just like all Americans don't necessarily support the war in Iraq. Governments are governments, and individual citizens have their own thoughts. Moreover, as far as I know, Natalie has only ever talked about how she wishes for peace in the region. She has worked with Queen Rania of Jordan (a Palestinian) on economic development and women empowerment projects. She did a movie, "Free Zone," with a combined Israeli and Palestinian cast about some aspects of the conflict. As far as I know, she's never espoused an anti-Palestinian view, and so I don't think it's fair to casually say she dislikes Rami just because of his heritage.

Wow interesting, she wishes they had thrown Rami out because he was mean. What bull, she knows damn well its a reality show, its a contest and things get heated. If anyone was rude and disprespectful it was the little guy with the haircut who she liked. Little Miss know it all should really learn to keep her mouth shut sometimes. I think her dislike for Rami has more to do with the fact that she's Israeli and he's Palestinian. Shame on her .

I am sick of Elle's white background covers, they are UGLY, and all the writing looks trashy. I know it sells the more writing you put on it, but think a little bit about aesthetics, Elle, it just looks so downmarket. Ditto the 'numbers' on covers gimmick. We all know it sells more copies, but TOO MANY NUMBERS. Horrible horrible horrible, where is the art?

I don't really care for most of her looks. I am always surprised at what she puts together when she is dressing herself. However she always dresses absolutely fabulous when a designer or photographer gets a hold of her. These pictures look wonderful. Is she naturally so thin or does she watch what she eats like a hawk?

She's such a class act, I love Natalie. I think I prefer the Marie Claire photoshoot, but this one is really pretty too, specially the picuture where she's sitting in the stairs, I love that one. I'm happy she's back to brunette though.

i love this girl! i do the exact same thing that she's talking about. i always begin an opinion or even some menial statement with that very phrase she mentions. she's very cool. and i'm so glad she's getting the attention she deserves. more movies for natalie! i too have a girl crush. seriously, if i ever met her, i'd probably scream and cry and then babble something stupid about how much i admire her.

Nat is so awesome. I agree. I wish Rami had gone. I would have preferred to see Chris's collection than his. I didn't like Rami's at all. I love Nat here. She is casual and cute, with a hit of sassy.
