The Oscar nominations are in! Hi there, I'm Lauren Bradshaw, and we're taking a look at the biggest surprises on this year's list in today's PopSugar Rush. JENNIFER: The nominees for Best Actor in a leading role are . . . The Oscar race is officially full steam ahead! Jennifer Lawrence woke up bright and early in LA this morning to reveal this year's list of Oscar nominees, which included Hugo with 11 total nominations, The Artist with 10, and plenty of those same names that we've seen pop up again and again this award season, like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Michelle Williams, and Meryl Streep. But the Oscars also threw us a few unexpected curveballs that no one saw coming — and everyone's talking about. Number one: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, and Michael Fassbender are out All three of the actors have been nominees for Best Actor so far this award season, and all three are noticeably absent on this year's Oscar list. Not to worry, Brad Pitt and George Clooney are still in the running along with The Artist's Jean Dujardin, but we also have Gary Oldman for Tailor, Tinker, Soldier Spy and Damian Bichir for A Better Life. — Gary Oldman not that surprising since Tailor, Tinker, Soldier, Spy got decent buzz and critics love him — Bichir's a dark horse. A Better Life smaller film with less attention, so somewhat surprising to see him over the other big names Number two — Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close came out of nowhere CHILD: What did it say? TOM HANKS: What a fantastic question. Let's find out. Even though it was noticeably absent at the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, the film managed to earn a spot in the Best Picture category and a nomination for supporting actor Max Von Sydow. — Reviews are on the movie as a whole have been very mixed — According to Rotten Tomatoes, it's the worst reviewed film to make the Best Picture category ever And finally, number 3 — there are only nine Best Picture nominations? In the past two years at the Oscars, we've seen 10 films competing in the category, but this time only nine made the cut. The reason being that films have to receive a significant number of first-place votes in order to make the ballot, and well, that just didn't happen this year. Be sure to watch the Oscars on February 26 when we find out who's going home with this year's honors, and tell us — were you surprised by any of these nominees?
