Was Penn's Comment on 90210 Girls' Weight Out of Line?

Penn Badgley spends his fair share of time with starlets on Gossip Girl, but he recently spoke out on the weight issue of the 90210 girls, telling PopEater, "I hope they eat a double cheeseburger or something." The stick-thin stars have been a hot topic of conversation since the show started airing, and most of you agree that teen shows are setting a bad example, but tell us — do you think Penn's comment was out of line?

I don't think it's wrong to say that bringing too thin actress as role model for young girls! ;)

The girls on the show are scary thin. They're a distraction from the story line at times because I just can't help notice their bones sticking out from their clothes.

It's not true what Lori Laughlin said that the 90210 girls are already thinwhen they entered the show. Jessica Stoupe who play Erin Silver will be in the premiere episode of HBO's Tru Blood. She will play a girl with a boyfriend coming in a store late at night. She was definitely NOT that thin as she is in 90210. I got an advanced copy of Tru blood and was surprised to see her there.

No, I totally agree with him! And it's nice to hear from a guy that thinks a girl is too skinny. It doesn't sound like something that any of the guys I went to high school with would say :oy:

I love that some people are finally commenting on this. And no this is not against people who are naturally thin...these girls, especially Jessica has lost a ton of weight since her last movies and she looks scary skinny and not slightly underweight and people do not forget that the camera adds about 10 pounds, so imagine how they must look in real life. The first time I was watching I could not even concentrate on the show, I was so outraged...and thinking why is nobody speaking out against this.

No way! He just spoke his mind and what he said wasn't even insulting. Plus, it's true, obviously

It is kinda rude to those girls but overall I think it was a good thing to say as it reminds teenage girls that what they see on their tv screens isn't always healthy or sexy.

freedom of speech on his part and it was hardly insulting...I watched last night and they all (minus Kelly & Brenda) looked like Whitney Houston at that Michael Jackson dedication concert thingy a few yrs back....her knee caps were the largest part of her legs lmao

Well, if they were naturally thin it may have been wrong but you can tell they are starving themselves or doing something else to stay skinny... Jessica didn't used to be that thin. They're on a hit television show and they're not pushing a very healthy image, so they should be prepared for the criticism. I like that a cute guy like Penn on another popular, impressionable TV show is actually speaking out against the scary skinny trend.

Didn't one of them play Darcy on Degrassi where she looked healthy before. Degrassi actually is good example in general. The show had an all teen age equivalent to the roles played cast yet no one was scary thin. Some were prepubescent thin when they were playing 12, but then they looked like kids.

no. i just read an article about their weights, and it made me feel bad about myself, until i realized i'm the one with a normal weight, and they aren't...

those girls scare me on that show. I think it is great for a young attractive man to speak out and say that is not appealling. I think young girls today need that assurance.

But the girl who plays Annie is extremely skinny and so is Silver. I refuse to believe that the girls are all healthy when the girl who plays Naomi is the heaviest one. At least Blake Lively and Leighton Meester don't look like they are one breeze away from tipping over

I see both sides of this argument and can't pick just one. I think that people shouldn't comment on other people's weight especially when they don't know them. No one knows what these girls are going through and why they are so thin. But, I also recognize that there are issues with these girls being so thin. Maybe a little bit of attention will show them that they could stand to gain a few pounds for their health.

I dont think so. I say that about girls that are too skinny all the time "someone give that girl a quarterpounder!" meh...maybe Im being out of line too...but whatever. SOMEONE needs to show REAL girls that its ok to be natural and to love your body the way it is. And that protruding bones are NOT sexy! And I think alot of young girls probably see Penn as a heartthrobe, so to hear him say that these girls are way too skinny, might mean something to them. Just my opinion.

I don't think you should make derogatory remarks about another persons weight whether they are overweight or underweight. But I don't think he was really 'speaking out' about their weight, it wasn't that bad a thing to say.

No way, he's right. Even though I don't even watch 90210...
