Angelina Jolie Talks Foreign Relations in NYC

Angelina Jolie is still hanging out in NYC, only this time she took a break from promoting Changeling to speak at a symposium on international law and justice at the Council on Foreign Relations. Angelina always manages to remind us of her dedication to social work along with acting, though we're still thinking about hearing her talk about falling in love with Brad and adopting another child. Her face is a welcomed one around here, but as always the real question on our minds is whether or not there's a mini Jolie-Pitt(s) sighting in store for us over the weekend.

Ginger the owner himself stated to a UK newspaper that it was leased for 60 million, ~~~~~~~~~ No, he didn't. If you consider Los Angeles their base, in the 3 years the Jolie-Pitts have been together they have moved house primarily for Brad's work [Canada, New Orleans, NYC, Texas and Berlin] than for Angie's [India, Prague and Chicago], yet you blame Angie. Why? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Angie didn't look at the camera and smile when Billy Bob said they boned in the limo she looked away and hid her head and said "Oh no." I don't even think BBT was serious. You haters act like Angie committed some crime in her youth. She wasn't even wild by Drew Barrymore or Tatum O'Neal's satndards.

This video of Angelina Jolie's FULL 5 minute speech is part of the CFR Symposium on International Law and Justice, which is made possible through the generous support of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS. (She must be dizzy from all the jet lag.) Video no longer available on YouTube - currently embedded in pittwatch's "Angelina Jolie at the Symposium on International Law and Justice" thread. http://www.pittwatch.com/ From Tina Brown's new website: http://thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2008-10-19/shes-actually-smart/ Angelina wows a crowd of human rights bigwigs with a kick-ass speech on war crimes, child soldiers and global justice. She's Actually Smart by Nancy Collins Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Nicholas Kristof takes exception to tone of Nancy Collins' article. http://kristof.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/20/angelina-jolie-and-darfur/

I understand that argument, but doesn't anyone wonder what happens with the kids that are already there? EXACTLY the point cherry! Yes, all those kids have each other to PLAY with, they have buddies because they have so many siblings, but they don't have PARENTS. Or the parents they DO have are spread so thin how could they even BEGIN to give the attention to these kids that they need. But, my thought is I'm going to be a little less vocal, becuase in 10 years or so, we're going to start seeing what the product of this type of parenting is, and I doubt it's going to be pretty.

I agree, we only get glimpses of their lives, out of context. The questions interviewers want to ask and write about probably aren't what's most important to the celebs they interview. Old bits of information swirl on the internet years after it was relevant. Not a good foundation to get too worked up over. Now to look for some Newman's Own chocolate. I must have some somewhere in the house....

"Unfortunately, being reasonable on a Jolie post doesn't seem to be appreciated by some (not all) people here." I think for some, there is no such thing as "reasonable." :ponder: Oh well.

You also made good points, Ginger. Hey, I was an only child, so what do I know? Big families are very foreign to me.Bottom line is we don't know anything about these people, other than what they say to the press. They might just say things to create a certain image and be completely different in their "real" lives. I try not to judge, but sometimes a comment a celeb makes just rubs me the wrong way and I let a comment or two slip.

Well, Ginger...you've made very good, reasonable points in your comments. Unfortunately, being reasonable on a Jolie post doesn't seem to be appreciated by some (not all) people here.

A lot of people do dumb and weird stuff when they're young, especially when they were, as Angelina has openly admitted, quite troubled. And then they grow out of it. That doesn't make them bad people. It makes them...grown-ups. If we were to judge everyone based on the strange stuff they did in the past, I don't think anyone would be immune to criticism.

Several people who came from families with more children than this one posted last week that in their (or their parent's) experience, the kids didn't feel they were lacking for attention. Given that Angelina and Brad rotate working so one of them is usually available as a full time parent, if not both, in the end the kids may get more parental face time than a family with one or two kids where both parents have to work long hours, year round. Some of what people call hypocrisy seems to be based on old interviews applied to current situations, when obviously her life has changed tremendously in the past few years. (example, saying she didn't want to have biological children before, then later explaining that after she fell in love with Brad her feelings changed.) People evolve and that doesn't make them a liar.Look how forgiving everyone is of Paul Newman, even though he dumped his first wife with three young children to marry his costar Joanne Woodward. Married her the day after the divorce was final I read. And he's praised for his selfless charity work, which he often explained was mostly funded by other organizations and donations, on top of whatever the food line with his face on all the packages earned. (Not exactly an anonymous do-gooder.) I don't see anyone putting down his $250k to Ethiopian drought victims because when he could have given to Americans in need, or the number of camps he has in other countries. Was the millions he invested in his race car teams more worthwhile than the millions the Jolie-Pitts spend on a private place to live? What about Tom Cruise dumping his pregnant wife for Penelope Cruz and giving millions to Scientology and spending more millions on his places to live and private planes? Is that more okay than the Jolie-Pitts?I'm just trying to sort out where a philanthropic celeb crosses into the line into hypocrisy.

^Argh! That should read "Who cares HOW many kids she adopts?" I really should preview more.

Good points, JennieO and MissM. I am on the fence with AJ. I certainly have no feelings of animosity towards her, but she leaves me wondering. But nobody is perfect and no matter what her reasons are, she is doing some good in the world. Certainly more than I'm capable of. The thing is, I hear a lot of people saying, "Oh, who cares who many kids she adopts? That's one more child taken out of a horrible existence." I understand that argument, but doesn't anyone wonder what happens with the kids that are already there? How can they be given enough attention when there are so many other children in the house? But when I voice that opinion, people just get huffy and say the more kids with homes, the better. (Not here - another site.) So my feelings on her are not black and white. Both sides make good points.

Ginger exactly i too think britney is a bad mother and those boys deserve a good healthy mother and that's not her but her fans think otherwise, as much good that angie does still don't like her, I think she is better suited as a mother because kissing your brother and wearing your husbands vile of blood is freakish and disgusting that would be disturbing raising children in that condition then you have the knives which I'm sure are for display not for personal use, but its her hipocrasy and fakeness that I don't care for be real, ginger this is a gossip site not even pop says the whole truth on the headlines or the story

oh, according to PEOPLE MAG it is listed at being worth 70 million. Owner Tom Bove said that they had paid 60 million for a 3 yr lease, then he shut up and nothing was ever said from him again, even when asked, now he just says no comment. I don't think 60 million is too much to them to span over 3 yrs, considering all the money they get from all resourses and considering they just gave 14 million away for nothing(made from the twins photos)??? They are humanitarians, but they are actors who want to make money first.

jennieo is my new hero! very salient points. i used to love the saint, back when she was a freak and didn't make any bones about it. this mother theresa act is getting old. yeah, you give to the poor, so do a lot of people, celebs and not. in fact, i bet a good number of people give more of a percentage of their income to charity than the saint and her lover boy. just a thought. doesn't negate that they give, which is all good, but that they are not the only ones. i want the old freak back. she was so much more fun then. now, she is always contradicting herself and is WAY to into her own hype...

urdumb - don't give her credit for her beauty? if people aren't supposed to ever appreciate beauty you shouldn't be on popsugar or any celebrity website, as most celebrities are famous for looks before anything, and there should exist no fabsugar or bellasugar, all wonderful websites that appreciate different forms of beauty - fashion and art and - here comes bellasugar - crediting the beauty of the face and body...
