Photos of Beyonce Knowles, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and Diddy at the Promote the Vote Event in Philadelphia

Beyonce, Jay-Z, Mary, and Diddy Throw a Political Party

Beyonce Knowles joined Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and Diddy at a "Promote the Vote" rally for Barack Obama in Philadelphia yesterday. Jay-Z and Diddy have been campaigning for the last few days in key toss-up states, and Diddy took the opportunity to open up about how important this election is to him. He said, "It's a new day right now and my son is in fourth grade, and when they ask him what he wants to be, now he can say he wants to be president of the United States. That's all because of Barack Obama." Beyonce later added, "Everyone is excited and it's time. I feel like we have grown so much as a nation and we will continue to grow because of Mr. Obama." No matter who you're casting your ballot for, all eyes will be on the news as the day unfolds.

By having elected a BLACK PRESIDENT you all have shown the world the new America is on its way and that is something great, it's a strong message to the world, it's a bloody HUGE DEAL.

I agree that people voting based on color or something like that isn't cool...this isn't a beauty pageant. Some of my friends are voting for McCain just b/c they don't want a black president...annoying. But on the subject, I don't mind celebrity endorsements.. Yay Philly ;)

For whatever reason seeing this celebrities "speak out" does annoy me too. They're citizens too and they have every right to speak about and share their views or campaign but I'm not sure how genuine they are at some points!I feel like I can "tell" what celebs mean it and which ones don't. Some celebrities are as bad as their fans and celebwatchers, they jump on bandwagons too and don't always think for themselves so they turn something signifant and meaningful into another commodity.I hope that they don't affect Sen. Obama negatively. And I also think Diddy's comment is so stupid. If he was really doing his job as a parent he wouldn't be saying things like that. I get what he is saying and it's true for many children but if he's as talented and smart as he'd like to lead people to be than he would parent his child Barack's mother raised Barack. But no, he just wants to post YouTube video, or whatever, of himself acting a fool.

The problem Branddiesal is that it also goes in the direction. Some people vote passionately on a candidates based on lies they whole heartedly believe about either candidates. We only hope in the efforts to encourage people to vote they look into it and make informed decisions. There is no ethical way to screen voters.

I was watching Jay Leno the other night (I never do) and he was doing interviews with people on the street. He was talking to a mid-20s black guy about election. Jay asked him what he liked better about Obama's plan more than McCain's. He didn't know. He asked him what thing McCain had done that made him not want to vote for him. He couldn't recall. He didn't even know that McCain had been a POW. But he knew for certain he was going to vote for Obama. Now while I think its great that he is going to vote. I don't understand how people are just going to vote for someone because of color. It's the same on both sides of the ballot. I mean, what if people who are voting for Obama actually go more on the side of McCain's ideas than Obama's and have no idea because they just KNOW they are going to vote for Obama. I know that my choice was not SO clear cut because both of their plans are not light years away from each other different. Just a thing I wanted to dialogue...

YES WE CAN!!!!Im not mad at them, college students will be inspired when they see their favorite music really involved. Its really for younger voters, you wont see Janet Jackson in your next office meeting tell you to vote.

I'm not a Diddy fan either. And these celeb do need to back off at times. Sometimes the attention is more on them as they talk about themselves and their upcoming projects when nobody asked them, during events such as this, meaning events that are NOT about them.Good luck tonight Barack!!

ugh - gag me - i can't stand all this celebrity endorsement stuff . i'm glad that diddy feels that now his kids have a role model that they can aim to be like outside of their father, but it's not like his kids are going to be 'of age' in the same type of society that we're living in. times are changing, and by the time they are old enough to be president (i.e. 35) who knows what the situation will be. i'm sure that we'll have many women presidents by then, etc etc etc.

CaterpillarGirl, I know they may be annoying to those of us who are informed, but they do help to get out the word to the disaffected youth, who unfortunately do not always vote.Maybe the partisanship is annoying, maybe the constant rallies are annoying, but they are helping when it comes to young people who never thought their voices mattered before this election.Whoever you vote for, go vote! You can't complain if you abstained.
