@Silvers567 - I see what you're saying but I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. I've helped with enough animal rescue organizations or know that a few dollars here and there really DO add up. And that's just on a small local scale. Thousands of people called in to this telethon and even if they only donated $20 each, that's significant. Also here's some info I found: "Hope for Haiti Now" announced that it has raised more than $57 million to date, a new telethon record for donations by the general public. The preliminary figure includes donations made via phone, online, and mobile – what the figure doesn’t include are sums donated by corporations and large private donors, or iTunes sales figures, which are still being calculated.

Small donations don't really make a difference. All small donations add up to the same amount of one big one, trust me, I am a fundraiser - I am a Mad Men of philanthropy. They just add up to collective consciousness - basically, if all the peons are donating $5 each, the millionaires feel that they should do their part too. "Oh, look trustees, all the zoo employees gave a dollar each!, so you should increase this year's gift to $150,000!!" (we don;t mention the zookeepers gifts add up to a measly $150) We basically use the masses for guilt-tripping the rich into giving.Basically the telethon is a tool to get all the stars participating in it to donate.
