Slumdog Director Continues to Steal the Spotlight

This weekend award season kept on rolling and this time it was all about the directors. Slumdog Millionaire continued its winning streak as Danny Boyle received the night's top honor for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film at the Directors Guild Awards in LA. This honor helps the movie secure its Oscar worthy odds in a few weeks. Claire Danes brought Hugh Dancy with her to present an award to The Office's Paul Feig while past nominee Sean Penn also took the stage to share a few words. Other presenters included Christian Bale and Josh Brolin, who both looked great in their suits, among the rest of the all-stars out to support the people who direct their talent behind-the-scenes.

Dev Patel *is* cute...I heard Freida and him have been getting romantically involved (yeh! Latika and Jamal!!!) As far as the child actors, I don't think anyone will really know the true story. But yes, major diff between the rupee and the dollar so $2000 might be a lot for a child *shrug* But the child actors were the real stars...Dev was also really good. Freida was literally in the movie for like 5 min.

remember the difference between rupees and dollars. i think the stay in school-trust fund is a good incentive instead of just giving them all the money straight away. you have to understand the situation those kids are in compared to child stars here. i know people/parents in the slums would take advantage of a situation like that, because i worked in some slums when i lived in India. Still i think Fox searchlight could have handled the situation wayy better, but i don't think danny boyle intentionally meant to have this happen. plus, certain parts of this whole deal seem to have hints of a smear campaign. nonetheless, i do think the kids should be getting as much coverage and awards as dev and freida(or more). you are right in saying they deserve much more credit than the critics are giving them....but that's hollywood

i can understand what you're saying a bit ladybug, but i guess since we don't know the real details of what was negotiated and what their lives are like over there, we can't really say anything or pass judgement. this may me something that's MUCH better than the life that they are accustomed to, so it could be a good thing if you think about it. i don't know. i just don't want to point fingers w/o knowing the whole story there. as for the show, i think that it's amazing that the film really is bring home so many awards. that's impressive. i'm also surprised that claire is presenting at all these shows since she's really not worked that much lately (at least i don't think so) and she used to be one of my FAVS so i would assume that i'd know what she's worked on that's been out. i don't know. at least she's looking nice!

I think the slumdog situation is reprehensible. They are parading the adult stars around, when the children were soooo much more important to the film. And this nonsense about how they set them up with money... if they stay in school until they are 18??? I don't think that's how we pay child stars in the U.S. I read that the children were paid about $2000 and $700. Laughable. And the director has the nerve to compare it to how much adults in their community make. Who falls for that? They live in a poverty.
