Photos of John Mayer at BlackBerry Storm Launch Party, Recently Endorsed Barack Obama "Hope Is Not a Buzz Word"

John Mayer Takes Politics by Storm

John Mayer had a gadget in hand at last night's BlackBerry Storm launch party in LA. While he loves to show off his newest toys, he also recently blogged for the Huffington Post about politics. John wrote passionately about Sept. 11, how it affected his generation, and why he supports Barack Obama. Here's an excerpt:

"I believe the definition of the 'hope' that Barack Obama enthuses operates on the unspoken thesis that there has to be a polar opposite to the despair of 9/11. Because if we accept that there's not, the will to live becomes forever altered. To adults who will vote for him, Barack Obama represents a return to prosperity. To the youth, he represents an introduction to it."

While John was out celebrating the hottest new BlackBerry, Barack Obama had a big night on television. There are just a few days until the election, so maybe we'll see the singer heading to the polls with also politically active Jennifer Aniston.

Are we seriously criticizing a man for richly using the English language unlike nearly all celebrities nowadays? And although I do agree with kanderso that one shouldn't base his or her vote on merely words but do underlying research on whether there is actual truth to those words, in my humble opinion I think, for people who are seeking this sort of change, Obama is really the only option, as McCain promises the exact same things as the current presidency, thus it is a fairly good argument alone to vote for someone.

Shaved head...not his best look and he always came of as a bit of a womanizer.

I agree with what he says, but mostly I agree with CaterpillarGirl and californiagirl. I just wonder why he feels the need to show off by using his extensive vocab all of the time. It's almost like he's trying to prove that he's an "intellectual". I get that he's fairly intelligent, but he doesn't have to use every single word out of the "word of the day" calendar.

I just read my comment... I meant John on *hope*... what a frickin' Freudian slip that was!

He does sound articulate, but it also sounds like he wore out his thesarus, as CaterpillarGirl said. This is such an odd crowd...Kat von D, AnnaLynne McCord, etc. Hmmm...

i'm SO TIRED of hearing celebs wax on about politics - they shouldn't be the ones to really influence our choices, but i guess that it's just one of those things that we can't stop. i hope that he's enjoying his new toy though!

I know why I'm voting for Obama. Its not because he's black or because he is popular. If he were a republican and black/popular, would I vote for him? HELL NO!He is the best candidate and I agree with all of his policies. People need to get over John McCain's lies. And who cares who he happened to be "friends" with? What's next, people are going to be saying "He shared crayons with Jimmy in kindergarten and Jimmy ended up being a murderer!!" ?Stupid, stupid, stupid.Obama Biden 08!!!!!!!!!

Mayer's fairly well-spoken, but he never knows what he's talking about. His thoughts make for nice lyrics, but not great arguments. He is not a psychologist, and I'm pretty sure the entire nation is not suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress-Disorder. Kids today are not contemplating the end of civilization, but are instead headed out to see High School Musical III for the umpteenth time. I don't see the nation as being depressed. Furthermore, hope is a great buzzword that says little about Obama's policies and stances. That's my main peeve with Obama followers. I am all for you believing in things that I may not believe in, but please do some research and realize what types of things Obama stands for. And I'm not talking about 'hope' - I'm talking about economic policies (not just where he plans to take the country right away, but his long term goals of 'economic equality') and health care and all the other stuff that matters. And I'm not going to pretend to be a Democrat or even moderate - I'm a proud, highly educated, die-hard Republican (very fiscally conservative) and it never once crossed my mind to vote for this guy. I don't hate the guy, and I'm not going to peg him as the devil (because I am not one to get into those kinds of 'scare-tactics'). But I do think a lot of the people who will be voting for him very soon have no idea WHY they'll be voting for him, except that he's popular and a moving public speaker. What I'm saying likely applies to most of Hollywood - - but hopefully not all you nice folks on this site. If you're an informed Dem, more power to ya.
