Cameron Wants Us to Know She's Not a Man-Hater

Before Cameron Diaz spent her long weekend frolicking around Hawaii in her bikini, she sat down for an interview with Parade magazine. The actress is promoting My Sister's Keeper and she shared her feelings on everything from her love life to growing older and grieving over her father's death. Here's more:

  • On men: "Men are wonderful. I don't think my feeling about that is ever going to change. I'm never going to feel differently about men. I'm not a man-hater. It's just not in my nature. I think guys are amazing. I love the dichotomy, the differences in men and women. I think it's wonderful. It keeps things interesting. "
  • On having kids: "I think that it’s normal for people to ask that, especially of someone my age, because it seems like the obvious thing: ‘Why haven’t you done it?’ It doesn’t bother me. It’s not the cross I bear. I’m not somebody who is going to declare either way if I’m absolutely going to or I’m absolutely not going to have children. I have no idea. I’m still young. I have an unbelievable life. In some ways, I have the life that I have because I don’t have children. I don’t think it’s a compromise to have children,” she adds. “I don’t think it’s a compromise not to. I think it’s just a different choice."
  • On her past relationships: "I think that what I’ve found, in my experience, is that you always find the person who you’re meant to be with at that time in your life. And what I’ve also found is that you have to move on from those people at certain times, because that’s the way it happens. For me personally, there’s nothing wrong with that. A lot of people find themselves trapped in something that they’ve outgrown and are unhappy. And they don’t know how to get out of it because they think that they’re supposed to make it happen."

To read what Cameron said about having ugly days, getting older, and her father just

.

  • On having ugly days: "Oh, sh— yeah. I have them. I don't declare myself as one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. That's other people's label. I don't think that self-deprecation is healthy for people. I think you should have a healthy relationship with yourself. And so we all have our 'up' days and we all have our 'down' days. But I'm not going to walk through this world hating myself because somebody else doesn't think I'm pretty. All I can do is know how I feel about myself."
  • On getting older: "I don't have a problem with growing older. I really don't. I have no problem with it. It's wonderful. Thank God we get older because if we're not getting older, we're dead. This is a much better option, to be getting older. And if we're not going forward, then we're stagnant, and we're stuck. And I've been stuck before. And I don't like it. It's not fun."
  • On her father's death: "My father passed away while I was in the middle of filming. I took time off to do what I had to do with my family. And then I had to go back to work. How if affected my performance I can't tell you, but certainly my father's death will be a part of me forever, and I'm sure it's going to be a part of all of the roles that I play now. It's been a year since he died, and it's been an incredibly transformative year. It's just something that's going to be with me forever."

i don't think she is trying to be profound neither.. but she is trying very hard to make herself look good... phony interview.

I don't think she's trying too hard to be profound; what goes into the article isn't her choice really. Usually, when you do an interview, you have somewhere between a 5-minute and 45-minute conversation and then the author picks through a whole lot of pages of that conversation and pulls out a few things that the author values or finds relevant. So, what we end up reading has nothing to do with what Cameron wants -- it's just what the author chooses.

It's awesome, she single and happy and not apologizing for it or making excuses. I don't think she's trying to sound profound, I think she merely wants to address her comments by every angle so they don't get misconstrued by the magazine.

I admire her so much, she always seems happy in the moment and I love her view on life, I am trying to have her kind of mindset. LOVE her!!

Love her - as she is down to earth and lives the life she wants to. We're the same age (I wish I looked that good!) - and I'm the same way about kids. It's nice to see other successful women in our later 30's to feel complete without following the pattern of traditional bliss.

I have never seen her hair like that. It's nice to see her try something new. I also like what she said about relationships. Made me actually think for a moment...

I didn't really like this interview. It seemed like she was trying to say too many "profound" things at once and as a result never fully formed any of her ideas and sometimes contradicted herself. Example: "In some ways, I have the life that I have because I don’t have children. I don’t think it’s a compromise to have children." It just annoyed me for some reason.
