Pictures and Quotes From Going the Distance's Drew Barrymore in Elle 2010-07-08 11:30:00

Drew Barrymore Tackles Being Single and Getting Older in Elle

Drew Barrymore is on the cover of August's Elle as she starts making the media rounds ahead of Going the Distance's release later this Summer. She stars in the film with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Long, though Drew tells the magazine that she's currently single and happy. Drew also opened up about finally taking a vacation, the public's misconception of her work ethic, and the possibility of plastic surgery. She said:

  • On taking it easy for once: "For three years straight, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends, and as of last December, I just didn’t have anything left. I’ve been so aggressive about living life to the fullest and being plugged into everything, but now I’ve ripped the plug out of the wall and put it on the floor for a while. I’m thinking about the same things as when I was 15, about spirituality and who I am, who I want to be. It’s cocoon, pupa, larva, and fu*k, I’m reborn!"
  • On the misconception she's just a flower child: "I make movies. I have a passion. Puppies and daisies don’t accomplish anything. That’s not me at all."
  • On being single: "If you’re 35 and single and it’s a choice, it feels fine. So I didn’t settle with the wrong person yet. Big deal!"
  • On the possibility of plastic surgery: "I don’t want to be vain or fearful, and I don’t think I’ll do anything [in terms of plastic surgery], but if I want to do something, I will. From my perspective, there’s no reason to be afraid of aging, because if you age, you’re lucky! The alternative is death."

I have to agree with Kitty Collins. I love Drew and she's my absolute fave actress but this statement seems kind of wrong. lol She's always been known as a free spirit who loves daisies and puppies, and the outdoors, and being happy. And I know that's not ALWAYS the case with her but it has been the case A LOT. I know she's probably changed, but I don't think she should have said, "that's not me at all", but more of, "that's not who I really am", or "that's not who I am all the time".
