I've been kinda waiting for someone to say this, but since no one is, I will SMUTTY POP...:ROTFL: You said :Are you f*cking kidding me. Australian is a race, it is a f*cking country. Actually there Einstein, Austalia is a CONTINENT, it's considered a CommonWealth and has a federation of six states. :ROTFL: And hell yeah, there's a lot more than 3 races! What the hell are you thinking???

Food for thought race n 1580) 1 a: a family, tribe, people, or nation belonging to the same stock b: a class or kind of people unified by community of interests, habits, or characteristics c: a division of mankind possessing traits that are transmissible by descent and sufficient to characterize it as a distinct human type d: inherited temperament or disposition 5: distinctive flavor, taste, or strength. Race is a group that is socially defined but on the basis of physical criteria. Pierre L. van den Berghe Race and Racism: A Comparative Perspective As of December 7th 2007, scientific experts say that there are 36 well defined races within the human race presently on the planet earth. LOL, Ummmm well I think that means that your "there's only 3 races" statement is pure BS!

Smutty, lol read your inbox. You're totally wrong. Yes, Australian does have a race all to itself. The Aboriginal Australian race is different than any other race. Their enzymes are so different that they can not be organ donors for any other race but their own. My friend's husband is from GUAM (as well as Spitfire's husband), they are not Asian, not Polynesian, not white, Hispanic, or anything else, other than Island Pacific is the only thing that comes close to what is checked in the box stating what race. You said there were only 3 races. You are sadly mistaken. I worked for social services and I can tell you there are many different races. More so than even the government recognizes and they recognize White, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and other. That right there blows your 3 races right out of the water. You need to do some research on Anatomy and Physiology and DNA. The people of the Chamorro race have characteristics that no other race has, and this is true of several others, like Samoans.

I know I said I was going to stop, but since my aunt is Polynesian, I had to let you know "native Hawaiians" are Polynesian. Hawaii is a place. I have cousin who is half black and half Polynesian. Did you know that, where in the hell did you get this list from. Did you know Polynesian is a part of the Asian race :). Okay I promise I won't come back or I'll be accused of being condescending.

I did not see my comment as mean spirited, again this is a forum to exchange ideas not blindly agree. As someone who had gone from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico to Greece, and now in the U.S. i will say that my experience tells me that no one group owns any stereotype.i would also like to add that travel teaches nothing if you go with your mind fixed on the idea that"they are all alike". The level of hostility in your response far outweighs my initial statement.

by the way, what is my formal miseducation??? Do tell. I am a nurse and I've gone into the inner city because I've had to make numerous house calls due to I used to work HOSPICE. So tell me what my "formal miseducation" is, since I experienced it all first hand in many different cities? I have moved all over the country way more in the last 8 yrs than probably any of you posting here today have. (I've lived in 7 major US cities) I do have a wide variety of experience and I don't mind speaking of them. If you don't like it, then move on, no one is asking you to leave a snide comment then run away.
spitfire2 spitfire2 8 years
Yes Coffy, how is saying "inner city" a bad thing or "offending" thing to say? I grew up in the country, I got called Hick, more times than I care to say. Hick, is an offending name, but Inner City? The inner city, in case you didn't know, means the inner part of city. It is usually where the more violent crimes happen in a city, and YES it is usually up to 90% occupied by minorities. Those are facts, I can't change it and I really find it OFFENDING that you would even imply that I am being disrespectful!
Sushi-Lover Sushi-Lover 8 years
lol coffy what else would they be called? That's what the ones who live there call themselves. They know it's not a great title and they know they have problems, but what do you want to refer to them as? Country people? The inner city, IS the inner city. I have to say though, the person who said that there are only 3 races but many cultures :ROTFL: I honestly had to call me husband and tell him that one, he agreed with me, It's kinda scary all the IGNORANCE out in the world today, especially with the Internet and the numerous resources that are available. Sad Sad.

i love how people come here with their formal miseducation. as one of those "inner city Blacks" i cannot tell you how offensive some of these statements are becoming. i'm going to go back to the other posts and have some superficial fun.

and before you say it, yes I've seen country WHITE people act the same all over the country as well as stuck up snobbish white city people. Again, it's not being a bigot, it's just a trait that some people carry.

Smutty Pop! Ok I don't really know where you get off, but really you just need to step back and either try to listen to what people are saying or just get off of this site. LimaBean was talking about race differences she's experienced in her own family. She said she didn't have any problems with that on her white side but did on the black side. Since race is what she was talking about, you think then which ever side of the family she's having the problem with is the side she's gonna talk about. Another thing...you are sssoooooooo off the mark it's pathetic! You said there's only 3 races??? ARE YOU FOR REAL??? Hate to tell you, but there are 9 major races and a 10th saying OTHER. My husband isn't white, or black, or Asian. I guess that means he doesn't exist right???? You are clueless, do some research please before you start running off at the mouth. FYI DEAR, Read and Educate Yourself 9 Main Human Races 1. White 2. Black or African American 3. American Indian and Alaskan Native 4. East or Central Asian 5. South Asian 6. Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander 7. Latino 8. Arab-American/Middle Eastern--If Latinos are, so are we! 9. Australian 10.Other PS I have known white people who grew up in black neighborhoods with nothing but black friends/whatever. They are (except for skin color) carbon copies of their friends. I don't know how making that observation is Bigotry. Especially since even at my own work a black friend of mine was teased about being "too white" by some other black co-workers. So your bigotry statement doesn't fly. You knew exactly what she meant and she meant no harm. Not all white people act stereotypically white, no do all black people act stereotypically black. BUT..there are a lot of similarities that inner city blacks share and it's a description of them, sorry if someone doesnt like it, but go into an inner city and tell me what you observe and tell me if it's the same around the country. I've been to Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City. I can tell you for a fact that there are MANY MANY similarities, and just observing that does NOT make me a bigot, nor anyone else who happens to see it.

Umm, I was actually being facetious with the psych comment and I said graduate level, there is a big difference between undergrad and grad programs. She has a lot of contempt for people she only is exposed to once a month. Which is such a small fraction of her life. She spent more time on their faults than her other family, which she spends a lot of time with. I don't have any issues, I am not here trying to attack another human being for how she views herself, that is what Lima Bean did with Halle Berry. I just pointed out that after a rant she comes off as someone with a lot of self-hate issues. Sorry sweetheart, there are only three races, black, white, and Asian. I did not make up that rule, you can argue that to you are blue in the face, but it will not change. There is a huge difference between culture and race, if you do not know that, maybe you should research that as well. Again, you cannot raise someone to be black, white or Asian. What you decide to label your children is your business. Well Kizer Soze all black people do not sound or act alike. In 2008 I would think that I wouldn't have to explain that. Do you think black people sound and act alike? I am not going to even get started with the Asian aspect of her response. I understand she was trying to make a point, but it was presented poorly. Actually I know many mixed people(black and white)and many have this issue, so this is an old argument for me. Some chose to call themselves mixed, some white and others black. I respect that it is their choice, I can't tell someone who to racially identify with, unlike Spitfire, but Lima Bean was not doing the same for Halle Berry. Who really cares how someone chose to identify themselves and if you do why? Why do you care? See I don't have the problem, Lima Bean does and Spitfire do. "She talked and acted just like the black kids that were in her neighborhood. If you didn't see her you would swear she was black". I cut and paste this from her response. Again we do not all speak alike, have the same mannerism or look alike. That was extremely offensive.

Yeah Im aware of the Mulatto census records I've even seen some first hand, you can find them online( if you have Ancestry.com it's even easier)There were even families with a black parent and a Mulatto parent and the children were labeled mulatto, I guess based on the way they looked. During the Civil Rights movement it seems that the mixed people were put with blacks again, Im not sure why, I guess b/c the mulatto term wasn't being used anymore. Either way atleast in 2008 no one can tell you who you are:).I don't think mixed and black is the same, I just don't tell other people how to identify. If my guy decides to only identify as mixed/biracial I will support it, but he hasn't expressed that. His sister identifies as strictly biracial/mixed, and she supports her brother's decision to call himself black/biracial. she understands they grew up with different experiences.Halle seems to love her mom and be very proud of her, Im sure her mother will be there to help her and her man with their newest addition. Im sure the child will be beautiful like his/her parents and now I will give this thread a rest, b/c my fingers are burning.:)

You're right Limabean it is changing ,but change doesn't always happen overnight alot of older people will still adhere to that old rule, which is why I thought Halle( at 42 yall) probably identifies that way. I see it as a personal choice. If you want to know why my boyfriend identifies as black also ( he also identifies as biracial, his mother is blonde and blue eyed)I can tell ya what he says. But of course I go by whatever the individual says, i wouldn't want to offend or mislabel anyone.I had a friend who ONLY wanted to be called Biracial and that is what I called her, nothing more or less.

Limabeans Mulatto(.org) might be the place for you. I am a member there, there are alot of people just like you who want to have a biracial community for those of black/white heritage.you can check it out. I will send you a link:). Sorry people jumped down on your opinion, some people don't understand where other's are coming from, we all lead different lives with different experiences, while my boyfriend calls himself biracial and black, not all people do this and I understand.:)

I actually wish there was a race that stated mixed, although I hate the term "mixed" I wish there was another name for it. I actually thought that mulatto was an acceptable term, but it's not used as much. People used to consider themselves Black if they were mixed because whites weren't ready to accept them as whites, because, they weren't white. I can understand that, we don't look the same. I got the same treatment from blacks though, that were not ready to accept me as black (my cousins). Halle also said she got that when she lived in an all back neighborhood before she moved to the all white school. I found the following: From Reconstruction until about 1930, the children of black/white interracial parents and of mulatto parents were usually identified as mulatto. It is becoming increasingly common for people to identify themselves as multi-racial, bi-racial, mulatto or mixed, rather than as black or white. The fraction of mixed children census-labeled as solely black dropped from 62% in 1990 to 31% in 2000 (when multiple "races" were first allowed), suggesting that the one-drop theory and denying one's European ancestry and no longer accepted. See, my point exactly. Why claim you are one or the other when you're not? It looks like according to the government that most Mulatto's are now stating they are mulatto's and not black or white. Good, it's about time people are finally recognizing that they are both and not just one. :)

That's why I referenced those two sites,b/c many biracial people ( who are half black) can tell you that they are onedropped and called black. It is all over those sites so even though it is an ancient way of thinking and I personally don't adhere to it there are people who are doing it to biracial people. Limabeans said people in her own family were doing it to her.
