I think this is great! Good for Reese! If she honestly feels strongly about this issue...well than go for it..don't let people trash you down Reese!Besides, shes cute, pretty, down to earth, and a great mom...who else could be so much perfect than her.

Also, is this really going to inspire any of you to go get involved? ALl anyone on here has said is: OOOH, I'd but that bracelet. Sorry, it just bugs me.

Julia Roberts, huh? Look, the fact is, Reese is cute. She's a cute actress. Great for her. Good for her that she's a mother. Good for her that she supports a worthy cause. That's about it in terms of my appreciation of her (or any actress) being involved with serious issues (through the UN). Frankly, to me, when I see (through my work) little girls screaming as they're having their genitals circumcised...I just can't imagine someone as superficial as a $20 mill a picture actress supporting the cause by making some stupid faces with a stupid bracelet in front of a camera. For her, I truly, truly believe it's a publicity thing. Incidentally, she's no box office gold. Go back to the numbers. Sorry to call that out - it's just the same line of thinking that is not right to me. Someone gets publicity for something and all of a sudden they keep trying to capitalize on it. It's wonderful to bring attention to a cause as worthy as womens' rights, but I just think we all need to think about it in a global perspective and realize that it make the whole issue less legitimate in the eyes of pracitioners of these foreign cultural rituals when overpaid, superficial celebrities butt in. It's really bothering me. I don't hate ANYONE. I just appreciate them as actresses and ask them to stay as that - performers. They start screwing things up when they try to assume serious roles.

Man so many haters. You guys act like Julia Roberts is the best thing since sliced bread. Personally I think Reese has a lot more charisma then that Julia ever had. Plus she is trying to help women and doing so in a worthy cause. What is wrong with that?

Another thing, I think Reese was appropriately dressed when she addressed UN, so there.....

i soooo agree with sophie827...besides, since when did helping out a cause required some credentials? women should stop hating women already and be happy that at least one woman, our kind, you know... in her right mind, has the great sense to do something positive with her popularity.

don't think she's the slightest bit cute (except for in legally blonde), but this a a great cause and it's always nice to see celebs doing something good for others, not just for themselves.

A woman in my current office and one in my last office sold Avon. They are alive and well and apparently hoping for a younger consumer. Reese is highly intelligent, articulate and a great person for them to have chosen for this role. I don't think ANYONE is worth $20 million per picture but if her agent or lawyer is able to negotiate it when they can, more power to her. Tell me you would turn that down.

She is the perfect one to endorse this type of this. She is an intelligent and successful actress and mother. What gives her the right to a 20 million dollar paycheck? The fact that she is box office gold. The production company is going to make a lot more money out her being in a film that she does. There is so much hate when it comes to celebrities doing things for charities but when we seeing them throwing their money away on Chanel instead everyone is just like 'Oh how cool'.

i think reese looks great! she looks put together and classy, she's probably wearing a camisole under that black blazer, she does not strike me to be one of those women in hollywood who would dress inappropriately (like britney). i think she is wonderful for supporting this cause, she is a mother of two and handled her very public divorce from ryan exceedingly well. (unlike...britney.) so please guys, don't hate! i think what she's doing is terrific!

I agree girlgreen. She is a woman, a mother, a long time supporter of children's organizations, she's on the board of one that she represented when she went to New Orleans after Katrina, she's also now working with Avon, etc. etc. She's not involved with any scandals (yes she divorced but that's nothing new in Hollywood). I don't see any reason why she can't represent female empowerment. She sure as heck does more than most young ladies in Hollywood. Good for Reese.

love her! and i'm sorry, but how does she not have "the substance" for dealing with an issue as general as female empowerment? i think at the very least she is not doing anything to hurt the cause. i happen to think what she's doing is great!
IzzieG IzzieG 8 years
The point is that she de-legimitizes the issue. She's not someone to bring attention to a very serious issue. She doesn't have the substance for it and I don't think her involvement is going to help. I just don't get the sense she understands what's at stake. Sorry. I'm not "hating", I'm just stating what I think is wrong with this. She might not read the blog, but I still care to make known my disappointment in her selection to this "post".

I agree DreaAST. Avon has done a lot of things for charity and women issues are very important to me.
