Sam Smith Elaborates on His Oscars Speech and How Much the LGBT Community Means to Him

After Sam Smith gave a haunting peformance of "Writing's on the Wall," his Oscar-nominated song, the pop star's night got a whole lot sweeter. Sam also won the Oscar for the category and gave a lovely acceptance speech about the LGBT community. But the pride didn't stop there — back in the press room, Sam was asked to elaborate on what it means to accept the award as an openly gay man. Read on to see what he said.

"It means the world to me. When I read the Ian McKellen piece, I was just bowled over by it. And, I wanted to take this opportunity to show how much I care about my community. In the past, in my career, people have said in the beginning that I didn't. And I just wanted to make it clear how much I truly do care about the LGBT community. At the same time, I'm just completely overwhelmed, I can barely even speak. I'm a little bit drunk as well."
