You might as well call Carlos Santana Santa Claus. Just in time for Christmas, the legendary guitar player has reunited with former bandmate Marcus "The Magnificent" Malone, who has been living on the streets for decades, and offered to help him get an apartment. And that's not all. Santana also has plans to record an album with Marcus and the other original members of the band.
This story straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movie came about when Santana caught a local newscast about illegal dumping in Oakland, CA. One of the homeless people interviewed rummaging through the trash mentioned he was once part of the original Santana blues band. After heading to Oakland a few times to look for Marcus, Santana decided to contact the news producer for help. Next thing you know, Carlos and Marcus were hugging it out after four decades. Santana later told CNN, "I want to offer him a place to stay in an apartment, get him some clothes, and just get him out of the street." He continued, "We wrote a song for him called 'Magnificent Marcus Malone.' We want him to play on it, and we're going to start, Lord willing, in January or February. So I would like to get him some congas so he can get his hands hard again, because he hasn't been playing the congas in a while." Can't get more feel-good than that.
