Should Celebrities Be More Careful With Their Stuff?

Kirsten Dunst is in NYC shooting How to Lose Friends And Alienate People after her stint in London, but things haven't been going so well for her since she's been back in the states. Her penthouse hotel room was robbed earlier this month, and the thieves got away with thousands of dollars worth of stuff, including designer bags, cash, IDs and expensive gadgets. Apparently the burglars got in through an open door of the suite, so we want to know - do you think celebrities should be more careful with their stuff?

You can never be too safe!

Other: She should keep the spare cash in a safe (most nice hotels have them available), but who would expect someone to break into their stuff? No one should be criticized for not being pessimistic.

I adore her but she probably doesn't care enough to lock the door behind herself. With designer stuff thrown at you.. I'm sure it loses value.. must be nice. Ha.

********** Just to point out again, the thief apparently gained access to the room through the service elevator that goes directly to the room (it being the penthouse an'all) so really the hotel is to blame, so no more "Duh, she should lock the door" comments please :) ****************

Celebrity or not, its common sense that you should lock up.

We all have a responsiblity and the common sense to know what we need to lock up. We cannot assume that someone is always watching over us and our belongings.

Uh, call me crazy, but I'm gonna lay the blame on the thief. If it were me I'd put my stuff in the safe just to be sure it's protected, but to blame the Drunkst for getting robbed is like saying rape victims were "asking for it." The fault is the criminal's, not the victim's.

yes, whenever im ataying at hotels i always put my vsluables in the safe-theres a reason they're there.

I read that a new crime trend was thieves tracking the travel of the rich and famous. There was a player on the Patriots that died and people robbed his family's house when they were at his funeral. Sick, huh? But these people are reading the tabloids and papers and deliberately targeting these people and their families.

the door was open? wtf - she at least closed the door when she leave the room, it seem she doesn't have respect for her stuff.

I really don't think they care, because most of the stuff is free to them, you know. SWAG.

Did she leave a door open or was it the hotel's fault?

I'd like to think I can trust the hotel while I'm gone

Of course celebrities should be careful.Just like everyone else. She had all this valuable stuff in her hotel room and left the door open. What did she expect.I don't feel bad for her.She has the money to replace everything.

I think she doesn't need all of that expensive stuff with her in a hotel anyway. Now if it was her own place, that would be another story.

WTF? DUH! of course celebs should be more careful with their stuff. This is quite possibly the most lame question asked here. And who really cares? It's not like they can't afford to immediately go out and replace it. It's all probably insured anyway. I know my stuff is.

Yes, she should be more careful.

She had it coming- She didn't put her stuff in the safe, etc. If I leave my louis vuitton in my mercedes with the door wide open and someone steals my bag and my car, its my fault.
tamalama tamalama 9 years
I suppose they should be more careful if they are concerned with theft, but clearly, she was not.

I keep my valuables ( the few that I have and that must travel with me, lol) locked in the hotel safe. I also would never keep my hotel door unlocked. But these famous people live in such an isolated little bubble.
supergurl supergurl 9 years
don't really condone what happened. First that's what safes are for. Second, who leave $2,500 (or is it $13,000? wtf.) just lying around in a hotel room. Third, she's rich. Who cares. Blah!
karisaamy karisaamy 9 years
Just because you are famous donesn't mean that you can be dumb (although a lot are) lock your stuff up, or hire someone who's job is to make sure all your things are locked up and safe.

How sad that you aren't even safe in a hotel either...the penthouse no less! I guess Kristin needs to learn how to use the room safe or travel a bit lighter next time. How creepy if someone was watching her.
purrtykitty purrtykitty 9 years
i'm not so sure about the safe part (except for putting cash, cards, etc...), but who leaves the friggin' door unlocked. that's just asking for someone to walk in and rob you. besides, even if her door was locked - who trusts housekeeping that much?! i always take all my valuables with me when i leave the hotel.
