Last week, country musician Steve Grand posted the music video for his original song "All-American Boy," and the video has since gone viral. He's being called the first open gay country singer, and on his Bandcamp page, Grand reveals that he doesn't have a manager or a label, so he funded the project with tip money from playing piano at a Chicago piano bar and at church. The song tells the story of one guy falling for another, and the video follows Grand as he gets turned down by a boy who catches his eye.
When he posted the video, Grand wrote on Facebook: "Time to be brave. The world does not see change until it sees honesty. I am taking a risk here in many ways, but really there is no choice but to be brave. To not tell this story is to let my soul die. It is all I believe in. It is all I hold dear. We have all longed for someone we can never have . . . we all have felt that ache for our #allamericanboy. If my story makes even a couple people feel less alone in their aching, all the blood, sweat, tears, and soul I put into this project makes it worth it."
