Sting has no Love for Beyonce

Many people are loving Beyonce's new album, but there is one very famous artist who is not a fan. Sting is totally bashing Beyonce and Justin for making music that is too commercial. He says that artists should be driven by spiritual experiences, not record sales. Here's more:

"Today's music is not designed for me. I don't understand a Beyonce or Justin Timberlake. For me, singing is a spiritual journey. I'm devoutly musical. As for my voice, I'd say it's become more mature. Encrypted with life, it's developed texture. This particular album I made in our home in Tuscany. I don't work in any thematically soundproofed room. I like ambient noises - fire crackling, birds singing, church bells. It's organic."

Funny Sting should pick Beyonce and JT out of the crowd. These are two artists who are trying to sound different these days and the result has been killer record sales. Check out Beyonce at the Armani show for London Fashion Week. Lots more pics so

lol tor...yeah corporate music still sucks and i have to say i agree with Sting in principle. and as much as i love him..he is a pompous-ass englishman though. he made some comment in an interview once about how much he can't standing touring in america because our tea is wretched. it was the weirdest comment ever..i made a spoof cartoon from it though..it was fun:-)

I love Sting and I actually agree with him about this. I was just having a conversation yesterday with someone about how today's music is all about marketing instead of what's within the soul. I don't like Beyonce', she always asks like she's having seizures when she sings. And I don't care for JT either...he's NOT the king of sex no matter what Rolling Stone says. And I hate that Rolling Stone has turned into the magazine that let's someone like JT do a Bruce Springsteen wannabe photoshoot. Today's music sucks! I miss hearing great music like from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. :( ((cries)) And I'm not an old fart, I'm 23. I just know what good music is. I do like some of today's music, but overall, it just sucks.

Yeah, times do change and unfortunately music isnt made because people have something important to say or out of an emotional, personal experience anymore. It's about finding the right choreographer, hottest clothes, and best publicist to whore you out for your looks and not quality. Sting has always been egotistical. He's notorious for being extremely arrogant which is exactly what broke up the Police. His bandmates couldn't stand his ego. But he has changed quite a bit since then and I do agree with him. Mainstream music sucks nowdays. It's not about the emotional and mental release for the "musicians" these days. It's about money and hit singles, hot backup dancers (if your music was really good and meaningful, you wouldn't need fancy backup dancers to detract from what you are trying to convey musically)etc. The sh!t produced nowdays, especially JT, shouldn't even be classified as music. It's actually an insult to the REAL musicians out there who have been writing songs from their hearts and real experiences, who play instruments, and have some really intelligent, meaningful things to say. Unfortunately, the real musicians get overlooked, while mechanical, overproduced, meaningless crap and the corporate drones picked out from beauty pagents and looking hot while shopping in a grocery store get all the attention. Example: Sexyback: Come here girl Go ahead, be gone with it Come to the back Go ahead, be gone with it VIP Go ahead, be gone with it Drinks on me Go ahead, be gone with it Let me see what you’re working with Go ahead, be gone with it Look at those hips Go ahead, be gone with it You make me smile Go ahead, be gone with it Go ahead child Go ahead, be gone with it And get your sexy on Go ahead, be gone with it Yeah, that's reeealll intelligent. *eyeroll*

I mainliy like alternativve and rock music, but i have to admit to liking Beyonce and really enjoying Destiny's Child. i do believe that Destiny's Child will be remembered like the Supremes. A lot of their music sends an empowering to women and I think send a good message to little girls (unlike Brit and The Pussycat Dolls). JT does nothing for me and Sting does even less. Name one Sting song from the last ten years (and don't cheat and Google). Bono rubs me the wrong way too. He loves himself and expect people to love him. U2 sucks now too.

Music is the great generational divide. Yeah Sting, you WOULDN'T understand a Beyonce or a Justin because as you said, their music is not designed for someone like you! He's sounding a little bittered-up, but I bet 20 years from now Beyonce and Justin will be saying the same things about the younger artists.

sting is the bomb and he is right, todays music is just weird. Some of it is good to dance to, but it lacks meaning like the songs of the past

Bee has the talent but she doesn't know how to use it anymore since the last album evrything she does is crappy i mean listen to the 'ring the alarm' song, she did better..She has the voice, she's a great performer but i don't know ,this album is lame,i'm very disappointed though i was a huge fan...I think she wanted to make a new sound but seriously i totally agree with Sting..I Don't think he became narcissistic he's just realistic i mean most of songs u hear nowadays r full of electronic sounds it's kinda frustrating bc we don't hear or feel the soul of the artist..i'm a huge a fan of Sting,U2,The strokes, rolling stones, the ramones,Billie holiday(..) in fact all these artists who r able to make me feel sthg,to make me want to rebel myself just check out the 'bloody sunday' song..In Bee's album all i wanna do is to dance for a sec than it's annoying me bc every songs r lookin exactly the same...

I'm disappointed in Sting. i can see what he means, but taking two artists that I love and using their names just frustrates me.
LaylaCams LaylaCams 9 years
He didn't have to use artist names. I guess maybe he's just making a point he sees the more spiritual side of music?

He doesn't have to like them (I don't particularly like Justin's or Beyonce's music), but he doesn't have to act like such a jackass, either. Maybe he didn't mean to sound rude or bitter or hateful, but he does. It's like when people start a sentence by saying, "No offense, but..." when what they really mean is, "Brace yourself, Bessie, I'm about to be totally offensive, but I'm pretending that I don't mean to be so you can't hold it against me."

Ha.. he's becoming an old artsie fartsie.., but what he says about Justin is true. Gag!

I think he sounds kind of snobby in this quote. Everyone is entitled to listen to whatever they want, but he shouldn't bash anyone with different musical tastes than him.

oh sting, don't be such a stick in the mud. there's more than one way to make music. does he have any children? he's so talented, hopefully he passed it on to some kids.

Imabeliever Imabeliever 9 years
LOL yodeling! He should have singled out Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.. they will never perform a song live. They are pathetic. I like Sting's music.. I have a few Cd's. Jewel I saw at the Del Mar Fair before she made it big and she did do a yodeling thing.. tooo funny. Im a believer in the power of BAMZS!

Considering I'm a fan of Matisyahu, who's an Hassidic reggae artist, I shouldn't bust on Sting for that.
Padraigin Padraigin 9 years
It's not rock vs pop for me. There's a lot of rock I hate, too. Jewel needs to stop her incessant yodeling.

Pad, that's one thing that made him stand out during the late 70s...the reggae-effect revolutionized music during that time period...and all three members of the Police contributed to the arrangements of the songs (most of which Sting wrote). So what if he's from England and singing reggae? UB40, Blondie, Payola$, they all did reggae tunes. I think he's more concerned with artists of today who rely more on image & record sales than with the composition of the music itself. He's saying that people like JT and Beyonce put out albums simply to make money. And no one's more commercialized than Timberlake, the little gnome-faced putz.
