Tiabia cant you tell that seasick's feeling of being offended were just a joke in itself. you are acting like she meant it for real. that is a clear example of people not knowing how to take things as they are intended to be taken, I got it and you didn't, so should we have to apologize for something that you didn't know how to take? I think not. To answer your question did a group of people get offended. I'm assuming some got offended, because of what some people are saying on here although personally I have yet to find ONE Filipino who was truly offended by that comment. Just like Bellanatella said, she has TONS of Filipino friends that WERE NOT offended, but she was offended and she's not even Filipino. I think the people that got offended were offended for the wrong reasons.

misconstruction, misunderstanding and misinterpretation happen a lot around here. folks seem not to give a damn about what has actually been posted. they're much more interested in disgorging what they have stewing in their l'il heads than in actually reading and attempting to understand what's been posted so that they can respond on point. personally, if i'm offended by a post, i'll read it again to be sure i understood it. if it's ambiguous, i give the poster the benefit of the doubt and MOVE ON.

Seasick, You just completely MISCONSTRUED by words. You started off your argument stating that it was "JUST A JOKE"...and then you proceed to compare and contrast that if the joke was made about a white person there wouldn't be this kind of reaction...ASSUMPTION. In your next argument you went on to say that your husband and his brothers weren't insulted by the "joke", but felt more slightly by those that were offended, as his "culture is stronger than that"...but never did you answer my question of BUT PEOPLE WERE OFFENDED, right? I asked a simple question, that was fact, and you didn't answer it. You see a joke, your husband feels slighted by those offend, I said that if you are offend VOICE IT!!!

i think it's the "in" thing to do in todays time, to cry "I was/is offended" by something or another. Where I work we can't wear "black" scrubs because it offends a girl in radiology. Wearing black is significant to death in her culture so now we can't wear black. TRUE STORY and plain obsurd! 7 people have already quit because of this. Really, where will it stop?

Fine, Ashley...I will ask you and Seasick an affirmative question: Were a group of people offended by the Desperate Housewives dialogue? you can only answer yes or no!!!

wow Tiabia you really seem like a person that sees the glass half empty rather than half full. Yeah, my husband is not the spokesperson for Pacific Islanders but he does have an opinion and he is a person and that is the only reason I put in my comment how he felt about the whole thing. He comes from a very influential family. He was the first Pacific Islander ever to graduate from West Point, his uncle is a professor at Harvard, and his father is the President of the Association of Guam in Texas so I do value his opinion in things because he has proven himself an intelligent, worthwhile, and competent adult. There are people around him as well as myself who value his opinion highly. I wasn't generalizing when I spoke of his thoughts because he is not the typical Pacific Islander. I really take "offence" in you thinking I was generalizing Pacific/Islanders.

Tiabia i don't know where you live but if you've heard more Asian than white jokes I'd like to know where that is, because the white race is the butt of far more jokes than any I've heard on TV, movies, or on the street. Will Smith made fun of white rich people on about 3 out of 5 episodes of the fresh prince of bellaire, the Jefferson's made white jokes in about every episode, and the list goes on and on. if someone wants to cry "offensive" and "ignorance" then freaking do it for ALL races, not just the NONwhite ones. I would love to tell Jesse Jackson how IGNORANT he is, and Spike Lee how Ignorant he is when they say offensive statements referring to the white race, and more so, I would love to see them get sued, I bet that would slow some of the white bashing for sure. As for Jesse Jackson, he's pure scum in my book..he has proudly admitting to have made it a point to spit in every white person's tea he delivered to when he worked at a Country Club in SC as a teen, for cheating on his wife and having out of wedlock kids with other women throughout his marriage (while calling himself a reverend lol), and openly admitting to despising white people and wanting the blacks to reclaim the southern states because he says it was theirs to begin with..yeah right, let's just forget about the American Indians right Jesse? Idiot! with ignorant people like Jesse Jackson and so forth making these kinds of statements..and being totally serious about it..i can't believe so many people are getting up in arms about a comedy show that wasn't even directed at the intelligence or ignorance of any race..the ones that are causing the waves and complaining are the ones with the real problem, if you can't get over this, you might as well hang it up in life because you won't be able to handle ANYTHING!

AGAIN...as I said before, if you are offended by White Chicks...MAKE IT HEARD!!! And, as I said before, no matter how you justify it, a GROUP of people were OFFENDED by the DH dialogue...AND LET IT BE HEARD!!! My statement is TRUE...otherwise, we wouldn't be talking about it now...it's as simple as that!!! You can say a million times that your husband wasn't offended, that people can soon sue for anything offensive, bring up others comments on how it wasn't offensive, but certainly you can see that IT DID OFFEND SOME PEOPLE...that's the end...DONE...OVER!!!PS: As with humor, people's level of what they deem "offensive" varies from person to person, so just because your Asian/Pacific Islander husband wasn't offended, doesn't make him the spokesperson for all Asian/Pacific Islanders, just as those who were offended don't speak for your husband. You can not generalize!!!

Yeah I remember hearing her say the Philippines thing and I was like WTF? I knew trouble was coming. They really should have mentioned online medical schools, what she said was plain offensive and goes to show the ignorance of these people. I'm not philipino but I've had to deal with ignorant stereotypes and racism, and there is nothing worse than having a bunch of uncultured ignorant people who probably can't even point out your country on a map (Miss South Carolina flashback :P) undermine it, and use it as a joke.

some jokes are good some bad, i still can't get over a whole race of people getting "offended" by this. With people getting so offended for the smallest of things and I guess the freedom of speech and having some strength about yourself means NOTHING anymore..In just a few more years Tiabia I will be able to sue you for "offending" me on a comment blog..will you think it's being taken too far then? And I'm not keeping count (like I guess you are) but I have heard "white" jokes FAR FAR more than Asian jokes...matter of fact my husband is Asian/Pacific Islander and if there were jokes to be told believe me I would hear them. He is not offended by this at all by the way, he and his brothers think it's more insulting the ones who are complaining, he said his culture is stronger than that and he won't whine about it...The only jokes he makes are when he says something in "the Asian accent". Bottom line is there are thin skinned people and then there are people who know it was meant to sound stupid coming from a stupid actress on a comedy show. I guess all the jokes that Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, and the countless of other comedians who make fun of white people should give us an apology. I guess the people who made the movie "White Chicks" and portrayed them as being DUMB should be sued for offending Me a white chick...Oh..but no right...because why again?

Seasick, Are done judging peoples' tolerance for feeling offended? How about instead of writing that "people make fun of white people" you understand that a group of people were offended, and rightly so, and move on from there. If a white person is offended by something, well then let them voice it. In American entertainment, I have seen many, many more "satirized" presentations of Asians, than I have a white people, and perhaps this "just a joke" was the tipping of the scale. Next time you want to talk about something being "just a joke"...look to those Abercrombie & Fitch t-shirts that seem to make rounds every 2 years!!!

What is wrong with people...IT WAS A JOKE. I wonder if it had been said about a hick from Hicksville Geargia would people be so up in arms? NO..because people have been making fun of whites for a LONG time and they don't care so no one else does either. These are some comments posted on an AOL ABC networking blog that carried the story: **I think alot of people are overreacting to this. It was a joke, on a tv show. Besides, the joke is true. As good as the filipino people are, their government is corrupt and money can get you nearly anything in that country. The truth hurts and that is why so many proud filipinos are taking offense. Here in the states I know many hard working LVNs, RNs, CNAs and MDs that are filipino. BUT...The joke wasn't to discredit filipinos working here in the U.S. in hospitals.Look at the setup of the joke. An american doctor being accused of going overseas to get a questionable degree. Whoever the joke is aimed toward...more people need to learn how to laugh at themselves. I'm one filipino who can. ** was just informed by my Phillipino co-worker that students dropping out or desparate about seeking employment will buy a diploma and transcript made the same day or following day. These counterfits are well known and established in the area of the medical schools. She also informed me that this is well known to the American Embassy, which is why they attempt to verify the diplomas. But the counterfits look very official (even with seals). ** think its funny. When you cant even laugh at yourself, then its you who has the problem. Its an adult show you know. **It as an innocent enough remark taken out of context.....what they meant by it was when you look flip a toy over of any package you but, many times it says made in the Philippines. The comment was meant to be that many things that come into our country are made in the philippines mass produced...not that they do not have unskilled doctors. I know there are a lot of comments that disagree also..I think it's crazy that people are so OFFENDED at nothing..if it had been said on Family Guy, nothing would have been said at all, because Family Guy is what it is..when you tune in you know what to expect. In Desperate HW it's a comedy and not always in the best taste..it's what it is...the Filipino people here in America that are demanding an apology from the network is taking it WAY TOO FAR. Simply ridiculous!
