Sugar Bits — Obama and Huckabee Win in Iowa

  • Big win for Barack Obama last night at the Iowa caucus. He won with 38 percent followed by John Edwards and Hilary Clinton. On the Republican side Mike Huckabee beat Mitt Romney, despite the former Massachusetts governor out spending the Arkansas one by millions of dollars. Britney may have stole their thunder, but we bet both campaigns are still celebrating right now as they head to New Hampshire. — CNN
  • Pamela Anderson will be proceeding with her divorce from Rick Salomon after all, as she served him with divorce papers on Dec. 28. Not too shocking considering her solo NYE in that too-revealing dress. — Us Weekly

  • Natalie Imbruglia and husband Daniel Johns, of the band Silverchair, are separating after four years of marriage because they "have simply grown apart." So sad to hear this couple is "torn" apart! — Reuters
  • It looks like those twins J Lo is expecting might be a girl and a boy, as her friends are shopping for baby items in both blue and pink. Somehow we have a feeling that the wardrobe of J Lo's children will go beyond just blue and pink. — Page Six
  • Jay Leno was scolded by the Writers' Guild yesterday after the monologue he used on Wednesday's show violated their rules. He (a union member) admitted that he wrote it beforehand and did the same thing again last night. Sounds like he may not have much respect for the strike after all. — People
  • Some details in The Great Debaters, which claims to be based on a true story, were changed in order to make the film more compelling. For example, in the film Denzel's debaters face off against a team from Harvard, but they were actually from USC. Hardly seems like a scandalous lie considering other things Hollywood has fabricated in the past.— Page Six

jillness- i think she may of been talking about huckabees ignorance on foreign policy, the fact that he never seems to know or care about the crisis in pakistan or kenya. anyhoo,i personally am happy obama took iowa and i hope new hampshire is next. he doesnt seem to base opinion upon what others tell him it should be. when he is challenged, he does not fluster or backtrack, he gets his point across with a smile on his face. maybe "inexperience" is exactly what this country needs. oh and...how sad natalie imbrugilia and daniel johns broke up :(

For a Hillary fan, yesterday proved to be quite a disappointment.

Sad about Natalie & Daniel, although being based in different countries probably isn't the best way to make a marriage work.

DearMissPriss, you are so right! Dick Cheney is the most frightening figure in American politics today, IMO. Not to mention the fact that Obama has also traveled the world to engage other countries like Russia on issues like Nuclear Proliferation, as well as Darfur.

I agree Jillness. I read a while ago that Dick Cheney has the most experience than anyone currently holding an elected gov't position. I don't know the details about that, but if it's true, it doesn't say much for experience!

"How can a man with little to know experience in Foreign Policy be so popular in a time when war is such an issue." Traditional experience doesn't equal foreign relations wisdom. Both Hillary and Edwards voted for the war. Barak spoke out against the war at that time, sticking his neck out against the grain, and said that Iraq would be a very costly war that would lead to an unlimited occupation, because of the regional strife it would cause. He was RIGHT years ago! If you read his positions regarding foreign relations on his website, he really makes a lot of sense. Plus, Bill Clinton had no foreign relations experience when he went into office. I think being able to ignore political pressure and stick to the facts to come up with a logical conclusion is the most important foreign policy qualification.

Congrats to Obama. Everyone is afraid about his being new to politics and even though that is a legimitmate fear, it could also work in his favor...he could really shoot for the stars because of it and frankly, we need it. Javsmav, I totally agree.

As long as a democrat wins in the end, I don't care. Obama, Hilary, Edwards--I could get behind any of them.
