I heard the Catholic church is trying to ban Golden Compass.

why do any of you think you really "know" this man and his life?? As far as Nichole Kidman goes I wish her a wonderful life - but if you want to gripe about someone, ask why she, who is supposedly a "catholic", put herself in a movie, i.e. Golden Compass" which was written by a man who does nothing but hate and attack the Catholic Church - I guess money does speak louder than words for some people

While it's an illuminating disclosure about TomKat's happy blended family (they wed in November 2006), it could also be perceived as slightly insensitive to the well-preserved Oscar winner, who, funnily enough, just recently shared her own story about Bella and Connor's not-all-that-atypical-for-adolescents parental moniker preference. Last month, Kidman was widely quoted as telling Britain's GMTV, "My kids don't call me mommy, they don't even call me mom. They call me Nicole, which I hate and tell them off for it." But it turns out she was misquoted. In a clip of the interview, it's clear her response was actually prompted by the interviewer channeling her kids as he jokingly says, "Hey, mummy ..." Mrs. Keith Urban good-naturedly scoffs, "They don't call me mummy." When asked what they do call her, she laughs, "Mum, or sometimes Nicole. I'm like, 'Hey!'"

That is a weird article about them not calling her mom. Hmm, because when in SoCal you can see the family together. Although, I'm not saying what community, but they are out and about. I also knew someone who went to the same church as Nicole Kidman and her kids, it was a Catholic church, too. I understand she no longer attends, so I guess now it is just Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and the kids, but at some point, the kids were doing Catholicism as well. Or at least attending a Catholic church.

I just want to interject the comment that, even though I criticized Katie in this story, I had grown to almost like she & Tom as a couple. They certainly seem to be in love, and they clearly love their daughter (oh yeah, they love "Tom's first two children" as well). My issue is that it's just becoming apparent that Katie is effing weird. Pardon my French. She had a crush on Tom as a teenager and when she met him and fell in love with him, I don't know, maybe it went to her head. She just seems self righteous and a little too smug in her happiness. Hey, you've got a beautiful kid and a famous husband... good work. Just stop being such a robotic weirdo about everything. She does not come off as sincere or genuine at all, and I think that alienates us "normal" folk. I don't think it's fair to say that Nicole doesn't care about her children. I think those are some of the meaner comments that I've seen. I think Scientology poses a huge barrier between her and the kids - I'm sure there are some weird ass rules that they have to follow that Nicole is uncomfortable with. No, I don't see her pushing a stroller around anytime soon either, but I don't think it follows that she doesn't care about her own children. I'm glad the Nicole quote was misquoted... because that whole thing was just sad. Also, if I was a teenager and my dad married some chick 10-15 years older than me, I sure as shit wouldn't call her "Mom"!!

yeah, star magazine took kidman's remarks out of context. in addition to the other posters here mentioning it in it's actual context on youtube, on E! tonight they showed the clip where Nicole says they do call her "Mum"... and also try to say nicole sometimes, but she wouldn't have it.

OOOOOOOH ... creepy This whole thing is so going to repeat itself over and over again. I think with Nicole Tom thought he could control her and he was wrong. The thing about being a woman is that a lot of the time we want to please so many people especially when we are younger and I think Tom Cruise exploits that. He finds these young women who are on the verge of being super successful and taps into their insecurities. He molds them into what he wants them to be and when they finally stop wanting to please him or when they figure out he's using them as tools to get what he wants he trashes one and goes on to the next. Katie Holmes has undoubtedly changed in the past two years, and it's not just the normal maturing of a young woman. I mean think about it she was in a long term relationship with a man her age that was heading toward marriage and it never seemed that she had lost herself so. Even the story of how she met Tom is eerie. He decided he wanted to meet her and had a meeting set up. Not for work not through mutual friends but through his agents. Then you hear her say what a huge crush she had on him as a kid and how he represents some super human ideal to her it's just not healthy. I'm all for people being happy I just don't think brainwashing = happiness. As for Nicole and her kids she is their mother regardless of location. Not to mention in the times prior to her divorce she was constantly with them I have a hard time believing she wasn't forced into giving them up she doesn't seem like that woman. And she was the one that wanted so badly to have children that's why they adopted. To have your children call someone else mom must be one of the most horrible feelings ever

Does anyone remember when Tom used to be cool and respected in the industry? Even though Katie seems to have done a total 180, I think we're finding out a lot more about her personality now. I don't think she's really "changed" all that much, to be honest. I think she likes a dominant partner (e.g. Chris Klein), and I think that Tom fits the bill. She seems to be thankful for all that she has, so I have a hard time disliking her.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE how she is soooo scripted, it's so cute. That's what Hollywood is all about. I know she's happy, but it all seems so fairytale, aka Hollyweird. I'm glad that still exists in Hollywood these days where everything is soooo 'reality this reality that'

It IS true that he auditioned other starlets before Kat(i)e took the bait. I've ALWAYS hated Kat(i)e Holmes. She has always to be stuck up as hell. And as for TinyTom... He is the mouthpiece of a very DANGEROUS cult & he actively recruits people to join :shudder:

Scientology is not the reason behind my despise for Mr.Cruise, i dislike him for his fakeness, his comments towards women with post-partum depression and because all his damm life seems to be a PR op. So, It´s not always a question of beliefs.Oh , and about Katie, well, she has her life solved so it seems a mutual benefit.

"it is preety well known that he auditioned a few other young starlets for the role of his wife before Katie was stupid enough to take it." That's, uh, FACT, like all the other tabloid stories.
