They may be called "soft" balls but they're not. I should know - My time up to bat & I actually hit the ball only to have it glance off her nose & break it! My next time at bat & I connected with the ball again... & while standing on 1st base I wondered why my family was gathered around my other sister. I wasn't even aware I'd thrown the bat instead of putting it down. I gave her a concussion! Suffice it to say - I retired from ever playing softball again. - It took weeks for them to speak to me & they still ask me sometimes if I want to play - I always say NO! & they answer back with "Thank God!" & then we laugh.
