Would You Want to Read Candace Bushnell's YA Novels?

Candace Bushnell hit it big when she wrote Sex and the City, and now she's signed on to write two young adult novels about Carrie's life as a teenager. Umm, I'm not too sure - I don't think I'll be reading. Carrie as a teenager doesn't really sell it to me, I'd rather know what she's doing now. I just find the whole idea rather odd, I don't think S&TC should be marketed to a younger audience.

Hey, don't knock young adult fiction, Pop! I just curled up for three hours with Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, and it was a great breezy read. good young adult fiction can be totally entertaining, and if you stay up with it, then you can recommend books to teens, and that is priceless. I'm probably too old to watch Gossip Girl too, but I do that also. But truthfully, I'd rather read anything by Rachel Cohn than Candace Bushnell. The TV show and the movie is all the SATC I need.

Elizabee--I'm sure the books won't be nearly that sexualized. Carrie is who she is because she's a single woman in her 30s when the show starts. These books will most likely give background as to who she is and what made her that way. That level of sexuality was surely not achieved in high school.

Never. I'm so sick of the SATC craze.

Ms. Bushnell,It's time for a new idea. I also think SATC for YA is totally inappropriate. I know alot of the YA books have alot about sexuality, but I think this is taking it to a new, lower level. Gross.

Why does it need to appeal to a younger audience. Why can't fantasy live anymore. Let it be. I hate when big corporate honchos mess everything up.

I've never read her books, but I always wondered what Carrie would be like in high school. I hope it stays true to the TV show (which sounds reversed, since the TV show was based on the book, but I think more people have watched the show than read the book).

i'm so on the fence about this one. i'm a die hard SATC fan, but i'm not sure if there's sense in going back to see what carrie was like BEFORE she became the carrie that we know and love. i'm sure there's something in there that gives us an idea of why she's such a fashionista, and why she became a writer - but i don't know if it'll be as compelling to read knowing what we do now about her being an adult. i'm sure that i'll read it - i don't know what i'll think of the plot line though.

There is some really great YA literature out today. I am not a huge fan of Candice Bushnell, but I am a huge fan of Carrie so I will definitely be reading these!

I'd love to read them, but I'm a glutton for books. There are very few I don't start to read if they sound interesting. However if they don't hold my attention after the first chapter, meaning I can't WAIT to get back to reading it when I have to put it down, I won't finish it.
