Zahara's Birth Mother Wants Her Back

Is Zahara's Birth Mother Still in the Picture?

All of Angelina Jolie's adoptions have had controversy, and this week it's about Zahara. Since the Jolie-Pitts adopted Zahara over two years ago, Angelina's said she is an AIDS orphan. Now, InTouch is saying that they saw her adoption papers and not only is Zahara's mother alive, but she wants to see her daughter. Mentewab Dawit Lebiso, the woman who says she is Zahara's mother, spoke to the magazine. She said,

"I want my daughter to come home to see where she is from. . . . Her grandmother and I both tried very hard to raise her, and I want her to come home to regain her identity.”

Who knows what is making this all come out now, but it's obviously a very touchy and complicated subject. Hopefully it doesn't turn into as big of a mess as we all know these issues can.

ADOPTION LEGAL, TABLOID SHENANIGANS (similarities with Madonna) ADDIS ABABA, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Angelina Jolie's adoption of an Ethiopian baby was legal, the agency involved said on Thursday, rejecting reports that the child's relatives want her back. Newspapers have reported this week that relatives of two-year-old Zahara, including a woman who says she is her birth mother, want the child returned to Ethiopia. Jolie adopted Zahara in July, 2005. "The court in Addis Ababa approved the adoption after studying the document her grandmother wrote … saying her daughter, the mother of Zahara, had died and she was too poor to bring her up," Tsegaye Berhe, the head of Wide Horizons for Children, which conducted the adoption, told Reuters. "The grandmother brought three witnesses to court who testified that Zahara's mother had died and that her father was unknown … The court also investigated the social status of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt before approving the adoption." Tsegaye said the adoption was "legal and irrevocable", and he blamed reporters who he said had paid the relatives to raise the dispute. "The controversy is media hype by unethical journalists exploiting the poverty of the grandmother," he said. I don't care if she's alive. That little girl would be nowhere and possibly treated badly if Angelina and Brad didn't come along. Zahara has parents forever now, that will NEVER abandon her, no matter what she was possibly ill with OR anything else. Her parents are call Angelina and Brad in my eyes. That woman needs to go away again.

Thanks for the info, ilek. It's very sad journalists paid the relatives to raise the dispute.

Ethiopian adoption agency backs Angelina Jolie Thu 15 Nov 2007, 15:09 GMT ADDIS ABABA, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Angelina Jolie’s adoption of an Ethiopian baby was legal, the agency involved said on Thursday, rejecting reports that the child’s relatives want her back. If she IS in fact, the real mother... We should save our empathy for who and what until DNA comes back.

Summer...are you for real? This isn't a lifetime movie, it doesn't happen like that in real life. Do you really want to take Zahara from a family that can provide for her a good education, good health insurance and the people she loves? Do you understand what adoption is? I doubt her birth mother would even able to take her back and if in doubt, Brad and Angie can afford the best attorney. I think this whole story is about money.I felt the same way with Madonna's adoption. I hate when they run stories like this cause it causes fear in people who do want to adopt whether from the U.s. or elsewhere.

Lol! aistea311 you just gave me a good laugh saying that the alleged birth mother should take a "Paternity" test. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be mean - I am sure you just mistyped! But that is an amusing malapropism! :-) Anyway, seriously, I look at it from this perspective. Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that she is Zahara's birth mother. We know that Zahara has some kind of hip problem that requires extensive (and prob expensive) medical attention. Ostensibly, the mother wasn't able to take care of the child and tried to get her a better life. Then, the child is adopted by a very very wealthy person. The birth mother is probably living in dire poverty, or close to it. She may not have clean drinking water, medical facilities, or even have food every day. When you are that poor, you'll do anything to survive. She probably figures, Angelina has money to spare - even $1000 USD could last her a year or two. No, it's not ethical, necessarily, but it may just be about survival for this woman. And in that sense, I do empathize with her. If anything else, if people continue to report this story, perhaps it will raise more consciousness about how many people live in extreme poverty when you and I thinking nothing to buy a new dress that we may wear 2 or 3 times total. The irony, is that that awareness-raising is exactly what Angelina (outwardly) seems to be doing.

Oh, Molly. I wish you had tabled this story until it was either corroborated or proved false. It's not right to use a little girl for any kind of exploitation.

Summer look up adoption, there are different types of adoption and this wasn't one with the option of the child seeing it's relatives as they said the mother was dead. Why wait all this time and then come forward. First the grandmother brought a fake mother and now this. I feel no pity whatsoever. None at all. And I'm sorry there is no way I'd send a child to live in poverty. Biological mother or not.

FOR ONE MOMENT JUST IMAGIN AND PUT YOURSELF IN THE BIOLOGICAL PARENT'S SHOES IF YOU ARE IN A BAD STAGE OF YOUR LIFE AND SOME RICH PERSON(LIKE MADANA & ANGIE )COMES ALONG AND TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION ADOPTS YOUR KID AND SPECIALLY IF THEY ARE SO SELFISH NOT ALLOWING THE BIOLOGICAL PARENT TO EVEN VISIT THE KID ONCE IN WHILE. I DON'T FEEL THAT WOULD BE A BAD THING FOR THE KID TO GO BACK TO THE REAL PARENT, AND IT'S NEVER TOO LATE FOR FOR IT EVEN IF SHE HAS BEEN WITH ANGIE FOR TWO YEARS IT IS STILL OKAY, FOR THOSE THAT ARE GOING TO SAY SHE IS NOW USE TO ANGIE I WOULD SAY IF PAX (WHO WAS ADOPTTED BY ANGIE ABOUT THE SAME AGE AT ZAHRA IS RIGHT NOW )GOT USED TO ANGIE AND HIS NEW ENVIROMENT AT THAT AGE , ZAHRA IS GOING TO GET USED TO HER BIOLOGICAL PARENT TOO AND IS NOT TOO LATE FOR HER. JUST IMAGINE IF YOU WERE THE BIOLOGICAL PARENT AND WANTED YOUR BABY BACK IF YOU HAD A CHANCE , JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE IN A SITUATION YOU HAD TO DO SOMTHING DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T REVERSE IT AND IF ANGIE REALLY LOVES THE KID , SHE CAN PROVIDE FOR HER MONEY WISE,TO BE IN A COMFORTABLE SETTING, LIKE BONO AND OTHER STARS ARE DOING RIGHT, DON'T JUST BLINDLY BACK HER UP BECAUSE SHE IS YOUR IDOL, SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO BE HONEST WITH YOUR SELF , BACK UP THE TRUT AND THE RIGHT ACTION, NOT YOUR IDOL.

This one belongs in the B!TCH PLEASE edition. While I find The Jlie-Pitts tres annoying, I am gonna have to jump on their bandwagon onthis one. Zahara was sick and AJ saved her now these two heifers are trying to bring her back. What a load of rubbish, she's in a stable, safe environment, loving too why take her back unless it's to visit. These two need to let t go, she's gone and she''s never gonna be theirs. Ugh so dusgusted.

Poor Z and Angie. And damn In touch magazine for dragging a private matter of this degree into the public :mob: If the woman claims to be Z's birthmom then get a DNA test. Even if it turns out that she is, she has no right to claim Z or drag the child back to Ethiopia. It would be more damaging to Z. >-O And it's not like Z won't know she's from. Angelina has made it a point to have her kids know about the worlds they came from. She's trying to preserve a sense of their cultural identities, not destroy it.

the *supposed* real mother's gaze resembles Zahara's. so much drama with adoptions, as with Madonna. I think once their parents have made the decision to give the child up, that should be final. Zahara has established a family with Angelina and all the other kids, it would be cruel to take her away, as much as the mother might regret her decision now, it's too late. If she is her real mother though, Zahara should know her

In Touch is running the same story again???? This is the same woman they had a while ago...1 or 2 years...they wanted to make Angelina seem like she had been hoodwinked by the agency and that it wasn't really legal and all that crap... Spokesperson said:....NOT TRUE. @ Pop posting garbage....double standard that's all...she needs "confirmation" on Britney's crazy life "lies" and rumors...but not on Angelina's....lol...is the business I guess.

ariyana_anthony: "wheras her biological was probably prego with another one or busy with her 10 otherones!" i think that your comment is unfounded and unnecesarry! there is no need to berate zahara's alleged birth-mother, especially when most of us have no idea what her situation is/was. if she really is the birth mother (somewhat unlikely from what i know), i doubt that she had the means to seek out intouch magazine for this story. it was the magazine that sought her out and probably put words in her mouth, etc. also, i don't think we can ever assume that she gave up zahara casually or that she didn't/doesn't care for her at all. also, the quote doesn't even say that they want to take her back or take her away from her family (though i haven't read the whole article), it merely says she wants Z to see where she's from and know her identity.
