6 Times Celebrities Sent a Message to Donald Trump at the American Music Awards

Although the American Music Awards are usually "all about the music," Sunday night's broadcast also made room for politics. The three-hour-long show featured plenty of jabs at Donald Trump from a few celebrity attendees, and considering most of Hollywood has been vehemently and publicly against a Trump presidency, it should come as no surprise. From spot-on impressions to an impassioned song, see how they addressed the president-elect.

Chrissy Teigen

The cookbook author has been extremely vocal about how much she dislikes the president-elect on Twitter and made sure to get in a subtle jab while introducing her husband's performance of "Love Me Now." "On the heels of what's been a really interesting, f*cked up, f*cking election for all of us, I think we could all use a little love tonight," she told the audience. It was predictably bleeped out for those watching at home, but you can pretty clearly see what she says despite being censored.

John Legend

The R&B singer made his sentiments about the election known in a much quieter way, performing "Love Me Now" while beautiful imagery featuring diverse people of all ages, races, and sexualities appeared on the screen behind him. Given the president-elect's plan to build a wall between the US and Mexico, his threats to deport immigrants, and his recent appointment of blatant racist Stephen Bannon, these images held a much deeper meaning.

Mark Cuban and Idina Menzel

Mark Cuban and Idina Menzel teamed up to present the winner for favorite country duo, and their opening bit took a clear shot at the former host of The Apprentice. When Idina asked the businessman what he's looking forward to in the coming year, he replied, "Not being invited to the inauguration is a good start." The Broadway singer didn't miss a beat, taking the opportunity to reference the powerful message the cast of Hamilton read to Vice President-elect Mike Pence at a recent performance, which Donald called rude and unsafe. "I know how you feel. Us unsafe, scary theater people wouldn't be invited to the inauguration either. I love you, Hamilton!"

Gigi Hadid

Jay Pharoah has built a career off of his incredible and hilarious celebrity impersonations, but his AMAs cohost Gigi Hadid gave him a run for his money when she flashed the cameras her best Melania Trump impression. Between her pinched facial expression and heavy accent, she nails it. Hopefully she can take a page out of BFF Taylor Swift's book and shake off all the backlash she's been facing.

Sting

Legendary musician Sting accepted the merit award at the AMAs with a speech that made some thinly veiled references to America's current situation. "It's important for me as a musical migrant to acknowledge the very real debt I owe to American music. After all, American music lit the musical spark in my mind," he said. "This unique experiment, perhaps America's greatest and most influential export, rock and roll. [It's] a giant musical jam session where the doors were always open. Open to all colors and the spirit of welcome and inclusion, the mixing of culture, rhythm and passion is what made this country the greatest country in the world."

Green Day

While performing "Bang Bang," lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong led the audience in a loud chant of, "No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA." Of all the times famous faces have spoken out against the president-elect over the last few weeks, this was definitely the catchiest.
