Tom and Katie attended The Black Ball hosted by Alicia Keys and Iman in NYC last night. The soon to be newlyweds hosted a table for $50,000 which included Tom Freston, the other Tom fired by Sumner Redstone earlier this year. That's one expensive table but it's for charity so it's all good. Page Six reports that:

TOM Cruise has a new best friend, Tom Freston. The two Toms were humiliated by Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone earlier this year when Redstone fired them both. Now they've become good pals and are showing a united front at tomorrow night's Conde Nast Black Ball at Hammerstein Ballroom hosted by Alicia Keyes and Iman. "[Cruise] bought a $50,000 table and has sat [Freston] right next to himself," said our spy. Also at the table: Graydon and Anna Carter, Vanity Fair features editor Jane Sarkin and Diane Sawyer's "GMA" producer, Marc Robertson. A rep for Cruise declined comment.

We wonder if this means that Tom Freston will be involved in the new UA that Cruise is forming. Should be an interesting pairing. As for the best dressed of the evening, Anne wins hands down. Tobey took in a Lakers game this week in L.A but it looks like he left his pregnant fiancee Jennifer at home. Last night Columbia pictures aired the new 2 1/2 minute trailer for Spider-man 3 on like every network and online entity that Viacom has anything to do with. In case you missed it, check it out below. Trailers are such a tease. We are so psyched to see Spidey 3 but we have to wait until May 4th, 2007. Boo!

Beyonce promoted her album and clothing line House of Dereon on TRL yesterday. As usual, she's managed to totally glam up a casual look. Of course, we know now that she had a little help. She never leaves the house without being looked over by her stylist. Still, the Irreplaceable star says that she's not a diva. While most pop superstars are buying up the latest Bentleys and Mercedes, she hasn't bought a car for nine years. Of course, she doesn't really have to. Jay-Z gave her a million dollar Rolls-Royce for her birthday this year. Still, she says,

"I figured I needed to invest in something and I really love art. I don't buy cars. The first cheque I got when I was 16, I bought a car and I haven't bought a car since. I don't buy jewellery. I bought a really big diamond ring when I was 16, wore it and everyone said I was engaged, so I was like, 'I can't even wear it.' I haven't bought anything else since. I really am kinda cheap."

Nick and Vanessa both share the same birthday on November 9th which is maybe what makes the two Scorpions so compatible. The couple celebrated their special day at Hollywood hot spot Koi the other night. Nick is now 33, and Vanessa is 26. Nick is also getting ready to celebrate the one year anniversary of his split from Jessica. What a difference a year makes.

Out of all the people in the world who are bashing K-Fed, you'd think his ex Shar Jackson would be one of them. He did, after all, leave her for Britney while she was pregnant with their second baby. But Shar says K-Fed is a nice guy.... and then goes on to call him a national joke. Here's more

“He’s such a nice guy. He’s made some mistakes but everybody else doesn’t have the whole world pointing their finger at their mistakes. I don’t know what their situation is or why he wants to get custody of his children other than the fact that he loves them,” Jackson told Inside Edition. “Maybe, it goes deeper than that. Maybe it’s because of all the press about her mothering.”

When IE asked why the public seems to be delighting in the couple’s split, Jackson responded, “I think part of it is because whether you know him or not, he has become almost a national joke.”

We thought the next thing that Kate would take on was a singing career, but it turns out that she's caught the acting bug instead. She's set to star in a Comic Relief special called Little Britain's Big Night on November 22. David Walliams, one of the show's actors, evidently talked her into it. He says,

"I've known Kate socially for a little while and she and Pete came to our show one night and liked it....So we thought, let's be cheeky and see if we can convince her and she was up for it. The thing about Kate is that she's funny in her own right so we think it'll be brilliant. It'll be a speaking role but I don't want to give too much away. When you see her and what she'll be wearing and doing, it'll be a big surprise."

He added: "Kate has natural comic talent. It's just that most people don't know it because they see her in pictures and beautiful people aren't allowed to be funny. But I know she's going to be great. It's a real coup and we're absolutely chuffed."

Katie is obviously gearing up for her wedding which is just about a week away with some last minute shopping in Beverly Hills. Meanwhile, speculation continues over the secret location where Tom and Katie are going to tie the knot. The latest rumor is that the nuptials will take place at a medieval castle in the Italian village of Bracciano near Rome. Here's more:

According to local media the Tinseltown couple are planning three days of celebrations, with a warm-up party on Thursday, November 16. A traditional Catholic ceremony will be held the following day, with a Scientology event scheduled for Saturday.

The Mission: Impossible star and his pretty fiancée won't be the first VIPs to visit [Castle Odescalchi]. The striking building, which dates back 800 years, has played host to numerous kings and popes in the course of its history.

I guess having two separate ceremonies is how Tom and Katie have decided to appease her parents who were adamant about their daughter having a Catholic wedding. Jen and Ben are the most adorable parents. They always look like they're having so much fun with Violet who is growing up so quickly. Ben seems like he's trying to hide Violet from the cameras, but she's not having it. We love that she's showing off that pretty little smile!
