Leftover Spirit Awards Goodies

Hollywood was not only able to squeeze another big awards show in this weekend, but it had quite a turnout.

Hollywood was not only able to squeeze another big awards show in this weekend, but it had quite a turnout. The Spirit Awards celebrate everything in independent movies that otherwise may be looked over by the box office or other award shows. This year the big winner was Little Miss Sunshine, which took home four prizes including best picture! Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling also won for best leading actor. Nothing beats an Oscar but we're sure a Spirit Award takes the sting out of losing! Don't forget to check out the complete list of winners from the evening.

Victoria Beckham

NewlyStatesides: Victoria and David

Victoria Beckham is still bouncing around LA trying to find a new home for her family (seriously, why is she not finding a way to bring that husband of hers with her on some of these ventures?

Victoria Beckham is still bouncing around LA trying to find a new home for her family (seriously, why is she not finding a way to bring that husband of hers with her on some of these ventures? And don't give me that soccer excuse) and looking stylish as ever as she does it. Honestly, does this woman ever have a sloppy day? She must not, because according to Simon Fuller, former Spice Girls manager and the man who negotiated David's move to the LA Galaxy, she's signed a lucrative deal with NBC to develop a reality series about her move to LA. Hmm, so I guess those rumors may have been true after all. Here's more:

"The Americans were falling over themselves to sign Victoria up for a TV show but we had to choose the right deal for her. NBC won out in the end as they have really taken a shine to Vic's hilarious sense of humour and they want to capitalise on this.

"She is a funny lady and this new series will show this to the world."

The supposed show, which will not feature her husband or sons, will be a comedic look (hey, she's got it in her) at Posh as she settles in to her American life. It would be like the Osbournes, but without a trillion small dogs. And less crazy. And without a rambling Ozzy. And there would probably be fewer cold cuts thrown at neighbors. Okay, nothing like The Osbournes.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Is All About Collaboration, Not Perfectionism

We missed Jake at the Oscars last night, but luckily we won't have to wait much longer to see him on the big screen again.

We missed Jake at the Oscars last night, but luckily we won't have to wait much longer to see him on the big screen again. Jake was in NYC last night visiting David Letterman to promote his new movie, Zodiac, which opens on Friday. While the film is already receiving acclaim, it seems that director David Fincher was very demanding of his cast. Jake recently spoke out about his frustration with Fincher's need to excessively shoot certain scenes. Here's more:

Mr. Gyllenhaal said he came from a collaborative filmmaking family: “We share ideas, and we incorporate those ideas.” He added: “David knows what he wants, and he’s very clear about what he wants, and he’s very, very, very smart. But sometimes we’d do a lot of takes, and he’d turn, and he would say, because he had a computer there” — the movie was shot digitally — “ ‘Delete the last 10 takes.’ And as an actor that’s very hard to hear.”

And he noted that other members of the “Zodiac” cast had far more experience, adding: “I wish I could’ve had the maturity to be like: ‘I know what he wants. He wants the best out of me.’ ”

Poor Jakey G. Even though he sounds a bit whiny in this article, we still feel for the guy. We can't wait to see if all his hard work pays off at the box office this weekend. In the meantime, to enjoy more yummy pics of Jake looking dapper in his grey suit just read more

Drew Barrymore

Drew Still Jonze-ing for Spike

Drew's relaxing and nature-y birthday vacation in Hawaii may have ended, but that doesn't mean she's coming home empty handed.

Drew's relaxing and nature-y birthday vacation in Hawaii may have ended, but that doesn't mean she's coming home empty handed. By that, I mean she's got her rumored new flame, director Spike Jonze, by her side in the airport on the way home. And now that we look back, he was certainly looking pretty close to Drew in the water the other day (good detective skills or why didn't we notice the first time? You decide). As I mentioned before, I'm all for this precious indie pairing and I expect to hear more of their hip music show outings soon.* After all, if Cameron's so happy to be third wheeling it, he's gotta be a pretty good guy for her girl Drew.

* In the meantime, do you all remember this awesome Adidas ad Jonze directed? Rad

Self-Enamored Sharon Not Ready to Self-Mock

Sharon Stone was happy to make her presence known around Los Angeles this weekend (see Independent Spirit Awards, Elton John's Oscar Party, the Vanity Fair Party), but she just couldn't find the time to stop by the one award show where she was actually a winner (loser?) -- The Razzies.

Basic Instinct 2 dominated the show, while Sharon herself took home, or didn't take home considering she wasn't there, the Razzie for Worst Actress for her role in the film. For the full list of winners (again, losers?) click here.

Sure, the Razzies are given away for the worst performances of the year, but there should always be room for a little self-deprecating humor (see: Halle Berry's acceptance speech when receiving her Worst Actress Razzie for Catwoman), especially when the movie that you're nominated for is as universally mocked as Basic Instinct 2. I'd make a light hearted plea for Sharon to get over herself, but I think that may be too much to ask. Plus, Cruella de Stone sort of terrifies me.

Who Was the Cutest Oscar Couple?

None of these fabulous people took home an Oscar but who cares?

None of these fabulous people took home an Oscar but who cares? They're all good in our book, especially when they team up with someone equally as fabulous and then they qualify for our Cutest Oscar poll. So forget acting or singing - how about the equally hard task of just standing around and looking adorable with a significant other, BFF, kid, or all of the above? Who do you think was the cutest coupling on the red carpet last night?

Hilary Swank

Jude Wins a Not-Academy Award

Evidently there were other awards shows this weekend other than the Oscars.

Evidently there were other awards shows this weekend other than the Oscars. The French have their own version of the Academy Awards called the Cesars and that's where a few famous faces ended up on Saturday night. Hilary Swank was on hand as well as Jude Law who won a special achievement award. We're not exactly sure what it was he was honored for but maybe it has something to do with his work in The Holiday. We certainly thought he deserved something for that cute role.

Jennifer Hudson

We Laughed, We Cried, We Saw Great Acceptance Speeches

Though last night's show had its share of highlights (we were particularly enamored with the shadow formation people things, video of which you can check out here), we can all probably agree that two of the biggest moments were when Martin Scorsese and Jennifer Hudson each won their awards.
Though last night's show had its share of highlights (we were particularly enamored with the shadow formation people things, video of which you can check out here), we can all probably agree that two of the biggest moments were when Martin Scorsese and Jennifer Hudson each won their awards. Here we've got videos of their speeches, one funny, one touching, both memorable. So enjoy (J-Hud's video also includes Simon Cowell's pre-show message, which was surprisingly sweet). Heck, play 'em at the same time for all I care. Though, gotta warn you, I'm not sure how well that mash-up would work out.
