Naomi Watts was one of the Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala's big honorees last night. The actress is currently starring in The Impossible and was presented with her Desert Palm Achievement award by Tom Holland, the young actor who plays her son in the film. Naomi shared a heartwarming speech about Tom, the emotional role, and her own family. She thanked her longtime partner, Liev Schreiber, for "inspiring" her and she also shared some sweet words about her own two young sons.
Bradley Cooper was honored at last night's Palm Springs International Film Festival gala with the prestigious Desert Palm Achievement award for acting, but the accolade wasn't the only reason it was a big night for the Silver Linings Playbook star — it was also his 38th birthday! Watch Bradley's acceptance speech and his reaction when the entire audience joins in to sing him "Happy Birthday."
Ben Affleck and his Argo cast took home the ensemble performance honor at the Palm Springs International Film Festival gala last night. Ben, Bryan Cranston, and Alan Arkin were introduced by Tony Mendez, the former CIA agent Ben portrays in the film. As he accepted the award, Ben said he felt grateful not only for the statuette, but also for the company he was in at last night's show. In fact, he gave a fellow sexiest man alive, Bradley Cooper, a special shout-out during his acceptance speech, calling him a "genius" and saying, "I love him to death."
We chatted with Les Misérables director Tom Hooper on the red carpet at Saturday evening's Palm Springs International Film Festival. He gushed about the "amazing" acting job of Eddie Redmayne, who accompanied him for the night. Tom also talked about the whole cast's ability to perform live while filming the movie, which is already an award season favorite. Check out our interview!
The tables were turned for Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell and his star Bradley Cooper at today's Variety Indie Impact brunch at the Parker hotel in Palm Springs, CA. Last night, David presented Bradley with the Palm Springs International Film Festival's Desert Palm Achievement award for acting, but this afternoon, Bradley honored David with an Indie Impact award for his directing work, calling his experience working with David "magical." Bradley said: "We shot Silver Linings Playbook in 33 days. Many directors would be hospitalized upon just hearing the schedule." All joking aside, the project has been a critical success. Bradley has been racking up nomination after nomination for his role in the film, including nods from the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, and David has been earning plenty of accolades of his own for his behind-the-camera work.
Several of the presenters and honorees from last night's Palm Springs International Film Festival gala were also in attendance at the annual brunch. Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hooper, as well as The Session star John Hawkes, all stopped by to applaud David. Variety, which partnered with Mercedes-Benz for the event, also took the opportunity to recognize 10 up-and-coming directors during the festivities, including Wayne Blair and Rebecca Thomas. Stay tuned for tomorrow's PopSugar Rush for even more of our coverage from the film fest!

Helen Hunt, whose work in The Sessions is already getting her award season acclaim, attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival this evening. We chatted with the actress about the "life-changing" film, why she signed on despite some very revealing scenes, and what it is like going into this exciting time for Hollywood. She also spoke about working with John Hawkes on the movie. Check out our chat now!
Jennifer Lawrence dressed up in a Theory jacket and fancy dress last night to attend a party with friends at the Chateau Marmont. She let loose at a bash before what will surely be a big week. Jennifer will kick off award season making the rounds to support her David O. Russell movie, Silver Linings Playbook, as well as The Hunger Games.
She's up for an honor at Wednesday's People's Choice Awards in the category of favorite actress, and The Hunger Games is in the running for other honors, too. At Thursday's Critics' Choice Awards, Jennifer is up for best actress in Silver Linings. And on Sunday, we'll see Jennifer in top red-carpet form when she attends the Golden Globes. She's nominated for favorite actress in a musical or comedy, thanks to her role in Silver Linings. That picture is also in contention for best musical or comedy of the year and best screenplay.
Olivia Palermo was in a bikini once again yesterday to enjoy the end of her St. Barts vacation. She had the company of her shirtless boyfriend Johannes Huebl on the sand, and the couple even shared some PDA while out for a swim. Olivia and Johannes rang in 2013 on the luxe Caribbean island, which is playing host to other celebs including Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough. It's the same destination that Johannes and Olivia chose to see in 2012 as well, and they seem to be soaking up as much sun as possible before they return home to chilly NYC.
