2008 Emmy Awards Predictions

Buzz's Bold Emmy Predictions

Ever since the nominations for Sunday's Emmy awards were announced, I've been thinking — a lot — about who will be taking home the trophies. While there are always surprises (sometimes big ones), these are my best guesses. Don't forget to make yours in my ballot for a chance to win a Samsung HDTV!

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
My prediction: Mad Men. It's got the buzz, the quality, and the critical success.
Secretly rooting for: House or Damages, two strong series that also deserve some recognition.

OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES
My prediction: 30 Rock. It's hilarious, it's irreverent, and it makes fun of the television industry, which should get some votes.
Secretly rooting for: The Office. It finished the season so strong that I wouldn't mind if it got a boost.

To see my predictions in the acting categories, just

.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA
My prediction: Jon Hamm, whose Don Draper takes Mad Men to another level.
Secretly rooting for: Hugh Laurie, who simply must win an Emmy someday for his crotchety Dr. House.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA
My prediction: Glenn Close, who had me wrapped around her finger through all of the twists and turns of Damages.
Secretly rooting for: Just Close. This award really should be hers.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A COMEDY
My prediction: Alec Baldwin, if for nothing but that therapy scene with Tracy Jordan.
Secretly rooting for: Lee Pace. Seriously, I'd faint of happiness.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A COMEDY
My prediction: Christina Applegate, who's gotten virtually nothing but raves for her return to TV in Samantha Who?
Secretly rooting for: Tina Fey. As Liz Lemon, she's really come into her own as a performer.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA
My prediction: Michael Emerson. I thought this Lost star would get the Emmy last year, and he might have been even better this time around.
Secretly rooting for: John Slattery or Ted Danson, both of whom delivered incredible, career-best performances.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA
My prediction: Candice Bergen. I just don't know if I can see this Emmys passing without at least one win for Boston Legal.
Secretly rooting for: Chandra Wilson, who can brighten up even the most mediocre episodes of Grey's Anatomy.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY
My prediction: Neil Patrick Harris. What can I say, he's legen— wait for it . . .
Secretly rooting for: I really want Harris to take it, but Rainn Wilson's not far behind.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY
My prediction: Vanessa Williams, Wilhelmina Slater extraordinaire.
Secretly rooting for: Kristin Chenoweth (will she sing if she wins?) or Amy Poehler, whose contributions to SNL really should be recognized before she leaves.

I too would faint with happiness if Lee Pace wins :). I don't really feel that strongly about the other awards b/c I think so many great people were actually nominated. Although, I will say again that I think it is a HUGE mistake not to have nominated Anne Dudek for her role in House as Amber. Those last few episodes were just too good not to recognize her.

Hugh Laurie taking top honors would make me so happy, but Jon Hamm wouldn't be a disappointment either. Both deserve the win! A win for Chandra Wilson would be pleasing as well. Looking forward to Sunday night's show.

While I totally think Hugh Laurie deserves an Emmy, I'm rooting for Jon Hamm because I'm a Mad Men fanatic. :P
