Hey guys I am Karli Bulnes. Award season is getting off with a glamorous start with Charlize Theron and Elizabeth Olsen stepping out to kick off the competition. Here who already won and who were excited to see get a nod in pop sugar rush. The 2012 award season has officially gotten its start as the Independent Spirit Award nominations were announced this morning. We've broken down the biggest nubs favorite fresh faces and sweetest surprises. The biggest surprise for me was George Clooney's name was missing from this list. He's getting so much Oscar buzz for his role in The Descendants I thought he'd be a she went for that. Sup bro? Don't ever do that to me again. Now there's Michael Fassbender who's been a film festival darling for his role in Shame. Though the movie was nominated for best foreign film, his much buzzed about performance was missing from the list. I was excited to see Elizabeth Olsen, Jessica Chastain and especially Shailene Woodley on this list. Woodley blew me away in the Descendants, and she totally held her own against Clooney. Ryan Gosling is having a huge year. But his role in Drive hasn't been gaining that much award season buzz, that's why it's great to see that he got some recognition here. Meanwhile, Charlize Theron got heads turning in Gucci and Elizabeth Olsen was a vision in Valentino, at last night's 21st Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York. Charlize accepted a special preview honoring her career, and Elizabeth was nominated for the best breakthrough actor award, though Felicity Jones was the one who ultimately walked away with the trophy. Other winner include The Beginners, for best ensemble performance, which also tied with Brad Pitt's The Tree of Life for best feature. It was also just announced this morning, that Brad also won the New York Film Critic Circle Award for Best Actor. More award season nods will roll in soon, as the Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe nominations will be revealed in just over two weeks.
