AMC has just acquired the rights to Walking Dead, a comic book by Robert Kirkman. The monthly black-and-white comic depicts a world taken over by zombies, chronicling the lives of the survivors as they attempt to create a safe community. The series will be written, directed, and exec produced by Frank Darabont, who also directed The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption.
AMC scored big with Mad Men and Breaking Bad, so I'm not surprised that the network is ready to take on something new. Walking Dead seems like a different direction, though apparently it centers on character development and the interpersonal relationships instead of just zombie attacks. For some reason, I'm already envisioning Lost with undead Others. Many of you said you're sick of all the vampire stuff, but will you welcome a new kind of scary series?
