AMC Picks Up Walking Dead Series

AMC to Take On a New Zombie Series

AMC has just acquired the rights to Walking Dead, a comic book by Robert Kirkman. The monthly black-and-white comic depicts a world taken over by zombies, chronicling the lives of the survivors as they attempt to create a safe community. The series will be written, directed, and exec produced by Frank Darabont, who also directed The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption.

AMC scored big with Mad Men and Breaking Bad, so I'm not surprised that the network is ready to take on something new. Walking Dead seems like a different direction, though apparently it centers on character development and the interpersonal relationships instead of just zombie attacks. For some reason, I'm already envisioning Lost with undead Others. Many of you said you're sick of all the vampire stuff, but will you welcome a new kind of scary series?

I am also terrified of zombies, so I will probably not even turn on AMC (outside of watching Mad Men) to avoid seeing Zombie commercials.

I love these graphic novels. They are unique in the zombie genre only because usually with zombie movies you have a story where its normal, then the dead rise, chaos and munching ensues and bam, your left with a rat tag group of survivors and thats the end . THESE take place after that End, and continue with those survivors and how they live. Many have lost all their families, children, husbands, friends, etc and they have to be on the move, looking for safe passage and shelter, and of course there are going to be "bad" people that survive also...... I cannot wait. and FRANK DARABONT? dream come true that he is taking this on.
