Albert Nobbs Trailer Starring Glenn Close

Albert Nobbs Trailer: Glenn Close Knows How to Be a Gentleman

Glenn Close has tackled a lot of complex roles, but none have been quite like the part she plays in Albert Nobbs. She stars as the title character, a man in 19th-century Ireland who lives a simple life as a waiter in a busy hotel. He generally keeps to himself, but there's something he's really keeping to himself: his gender. Nobbs is actually a woman who has adopted the dress of a man to survive the social climate of the time, but even though Nobbs has kept up the charade for a while, he encounters a few complications. First, another man comes into Nobbs's life and challenges his identity, then Nobbs decides to pursue a dream of opening his own tobacco shop, which requires taking a wife, and he sets his sights on a maid in his hotel (Mia Wasikowska).

There's an undercurrent that Nobbs is on the verge of being discovered at all times, but the trailer plays up the lighter aspects of the story — especially the interesting "love triangle" that Nobbs gets involved in. But the real draw of the film is to see Close as a man, a role that's already earning her awards buzz. To get a hint of how convincingly she mans up, just watch the trailer when you keep reading.
