The cast of the original American Pie are back for a fourth time around in American Reunion. The comedy provides plenty of throwbacks to the '99 film, but is it funny enough to see in the theater? Watch our review to find out!View Transcript »
Hi. I'm Becky Kirsch with Watch, Pass or Rent. We're looking at American Reunion. Thirteen years after the release of the original American Pie, Jim and the gang are back to attend their high school reunion for a weekend that's filled with parties, booze and, of course, awkward sexual encounters. What's up class of '99-ers? We're gonna party together. Hell yeah . Just like old times. Let's make this reunion our bitch. Cheers! What's so great about the first American Pie movie was that the kids were in high school; you could relate to their story and even though there are some shocking moments, it was all really funny. Now the guys are in their 30's. It's not really cute to see them lusting after girls in high school, and it tries so hard to push the envelope that it's just turned off. There's a smoking hot 18-year-old girl over there that you used to babysit and you're not gonna do anything about that? It's cool that they got most of the original cast members back in the movie, but for the most part, they're mostly quick cameos. On the other hand, Stifler has a bigger role than ever. He's really relied upon heavily for most of the humor. Unfortunately, he's more obnoxious than ever, more offensive than ever, and I just couldn't take it. Be her daddy. This movie is way too long and was partly due to the fact that there's too many unnecessary story lines. For example you have Jim's dad trying to move on after the death of his wife, Stifler has these work problems, Jim's next door neighbor is lusting after him the whole time and by the end of it I just couldn't wait for it to be over. Pete, remember that one time at band camp when we licked whip cream off each other's. Yes. I could appreciate the nostalgic aspect of it movie and there was some really some good '90's tunes in here but overall the jokes are just to juvenile, all the female characters are objectified and the story lines don't make sense for men in their 30's. So I have to give this one a Pass.
