@CaterpillarGirl I consider it tragic because she would've been a fool not to notice she had a problem and, like you implied, not get help. (Or more specifically, get help and stick with it.) But then it should be noted, addiction is an awfully tricky disease. It was undeniably selfish of her to continue her life as an addict, but to say "she wasted it all to be wasted" is a little too black and white for my tastes.

My thoughts are with her family. In response to the people dismiss her as a hapless drug addict and there are thousands of people that die every day: quitting drugs is not as easy as putting down the pipe or not purchasing said poison of choice. Drugs, whether legal or illegal alters the brain and chemicals use by the brain is forever altered in such a way that the addict needs drugs to "function". The rate of relapse is high among addicts. Even if she manage to stay clean for years, there is always a chance for relapse. She was a human being and human beings deserve compassion and understanding when they mess up. None of us are perfect and made several bad decisions in our lifetimes and probably make some more. I have no idea what kind of pain she was trying to ease, but she isn't hurting anymore. I am not saying this because it is Amy Winehouse, but I have empathy because addiction of any kind is hard as hell to conquer.

I feel sympathy for her parents, but not much sadness over her "tragic" death. its not tragic if its expected. She had talent and wasted it on drugs, she had plenty of opportunity to make her life meaningful and to show her fans what strength and hope can do and instead she wasted it all to be wasted....

Sad, very sad. I feel bad that she could not beat the drug/alcohol addiction. It is such a horrible battle to win. May she now rest in peace.

Tragic. I'm just wondering why so many great rock stars ( and now the legends ) died at 27. Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain and now her - almost certain - new legend.

Tragic death, she could've had such a long life ahead of her. Great article here if anyone is interested: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2018126/Amy-Winehouse-bought-ecstasy-cocaine-ketamine-tragic-death.html#ixzz1T2YW87Jr

This is very sad. I have read comments that pretty much say that this was her fault. This just goes to show how our society views mental illness. As if her obvious hatred of herself was something she did to herself. Yes drugs and alcohol were contributing factor, but addiction is also a mental illness, a progressive illness in fact, that many people in today's society suffer from. I do not feel that anyone should be judging her at this point. You have not lives her life and do not know what she has gone throughLet her rest in piece
