Bad News for Big Shots — But Good for Private Practice?

Big Shots, one of those new shows that I wished would be better than it was, has been pulled from the ABC schedule, effective immediately. It's a curious decision given the writers' strike — the show had three finished episodes that could have aired, and you'd think any original programming these days would be better than repeats.

Not so at ABC, apparently; instead of Big Shots, the network will air repeats of Private Practice in the post-Grey's Anatomy time slot for the next three weeks. (Grey's will be in repeats the whole time, too.)

There's speculation that the move could be a tryout for Private Practice in the post-Grey's time slot, but I really hope that doesn't happen. For one thing, Private Practice seems to be doing just fine on Wednesdays. For another, I think putting the spinoff after the original would just make Private Practice look weak. I already miss Addison at Seattle Grace; seeing the shows back-to-back would only make that worse.

I've already said I'd like to see Cashmere Mafia air after Grey's to take on NBC's Lipstick Jungle. But if that doesn't happen, what about Dirty Sexy Money? It's a good show that's being mostly forgotten in its current time slot, and it shares the soapy tone of Grey's but is different enough that viewers might stick around to watch it. I know I would — what about you?

I'm bummed that they've decided to pull Big Shots. I really liked the show... more than DSM and (pardon me for saying so) this and last seasons of Grey's (quite frankly it's getting too wishy-washy). I hope they bring back Big Shots and just try for better character development... I think it could be a great show if they put more effort into it as opposed to only making it a male SATC.

i liked big shots too. although it really didn't live up to it's potential. doesn't make sense not to air the remaining 3 finished episodes while a writers strike is going on though....

I think you are absolutely right! Going after Grey's would definitely make Private Practice look like a paltry little spin-off attempt.

Another could-have-been-juicy-TV-interracial-romance bites the dust. So annoyed, I liked Big Shots, yet we have to watch meredith whine and whine about a freaking relationship that isn't even a relationship. I officailly hate ABC.

Dirty Sexy Money after Grey's is a great suggestion... but I watched Big Shots sometimes. it was fun watching men get all gossipy.

Dirt will be back, but the Riches start in March.

Maybe I'll just have to rent some old series on DVD. Sopranos? Or Weeds is on my queue. I'm just looking forward to The Riches and Dirt coming back. I heard they'll be on again in January.

Apparently me too SPM. I never could get into Private Practice, but taped and watched Big Shots. Oh well :oy: When October Road premiered a few weeks ago, I started taping it, so maybe I can get into that one.

I don't watch Private Practice. I kept giving it a shot, but I'd end up deleting it from the DVR about halfway in to each episode. It just felt boring and slow. But, I like Big Shots, that's too bad that it's getting pulled. I have watched every episode. It's fun to see a show that's still gossip-y, but centered around four GUYS. Oh well, apparently I have no taste. :oy:

big shot has to have the most annoying, vapid characters. the only ones that were reasonable and actually likeable were nia long's character and michael vartan's character. other than that i couldn't stand the rest. so am i relief that big shot is being cancelled? yes and YES! now to replace it, i think i would love to have cashmere mafia after grey's. ugly betty, grey's and then cashmere. i really, really love that line up there.

I'm getting used to the Wednesday line up with Dirty Sexy Money following Private Practice, but I'm all for moving it to a time slot where it will get the most viewers. I really enjoy it. No to Private Practice following Grey's, but yes to Cashmere Mafia in that slot. Thursdays would be a fun night as well.

I tried to like Big Shots for Michael Vartan action ... but it just didn't happen. It felt very smug and was boring too.

you know what annoyes me about Private practice? that Naomi always talks about her ex-husband, but Addison totally forgot hers. and I know it's because they don't want two shows interfearing, but it's very unnatural. shouldn't everybody be interested in her love life before she came down to LA? Because there are very interested in everybody else's past love life.

I'd love it if Dirty Sexy Money got the Grey's lead-in.

I don't like Private Practice, but I still love Grey's Anatomy. I'd like to see Dirty Sexy Money on after it because it's less dramatic. Besides, why would you want two medical shows back to back?

Thursday night after Grey's is a key spot. I wouldn't mind seeing October Road there. It might be getting lost on Monday nights . I'm afraid if it keeps following the 1/2 hour shows on Monday it won't capture the audience it needs. It is a great hour drama. I am kind of getting used to seeing Dirty Sexy Money on Wednesday night following Private Practice. Those two make a good Wednesday night lineup.
